HINTS FOR SAFE LIFTING1. A sling should be examined for defects prior to the use and to ensure

that its identifi cation and specifi cation are correct.2. Slings should not be overloaded.3. Slings should never be knotted or twisted.4. Slings should be protected from sharp edges, friction and abrasion,

whether from the load or from the lifting appliance.5. The polyester material from which Loadlok slings are manufactured has

selected resistance to chemicals. Advice should always be sought if exposure to chemicals is likely.

6. Polyester slings are suitable for use in the temperature range of -40º C to 100º C. This material can be adversely aff ected in a chemical environment, if contamination by chemicals is likely please seek advice from Loadlok

7. Avoid snatch or shock loading.8. Never repair a damaged sling, always consult your supplier

norm en 1492This European Standard specifi es the Basic characteristics of slings used for general lifting purposes and tests and procedures to verify these characteristics.

It specifi es the construction, identifi cation and marking of these slings, as well as the means of recording their characteristics.

It gives working load limits (WLL) and describes the methods for verifying them. Modes of assembly of slings and the mode factors to be used, together with the related working load limits, are given.

This standard gives important practical advice on the use, maintenance and inspection of slings.
