Revalidation requirements for master and officers on board tankers

Amendments to the sea service requirement to establish continued professional competence






Masters and officers shall, for continuing seagoing service on board tankers, meet the general revalidation requirements of regulation I/11, paragraph 1, and establish professional competence for tankers, as follows:

• Approved seagoing service, performing duties appropriate to the tanker certificate or endorsement held, for a period of at least 3 months in total during the preceding 5 years; or• Successfully completing an approve relevant training course or courses January 2011January 2011 4545





Continued professional competence as required under regulation I/11 shall be established by:

.1 approved seagoing service, performing functions appropriate

to the certificate held, for a period of at least:

.1 twelve months in total during the preceding five years, or

.2 three months in total during the preceding six months

Three new clarifications:1. “Test” – may be oral or written

2.“Approved seagoing service” – may be served in an appropriate lower officer rank than the certificate held

3. If an application for revalidation of a certificate is made within six months before expiry of the certificate, the certificate may be revalidated until the fifth anniversary of the date of validity, or extension of the validity, of the certificate
