• This was land of opportunity! • They were restless and wanted new land

HOW DO YOU THINK THE COLONISTS REACTED TO THE STAMP ACT?
• THE COLONISTS ACTED WITH RAGE!! The American colonies had NO REPRESENTATION in Parliament. Therefore, they believed that Congress could not tax them!
HOW DID THE COLONISTS RESPOND?
• In October of 1765 nine colonies sent delegates to the Stamp Act Congress in New York City. There the delegates drew up a petition protesting the Stamp Act.
• The petition declared that the right to tax the colonist belonged to the colonial assemblies not to the Parliament.
SONS OF LIBERTY

• Burned the stamp paper• Tarred and feathered custom officials• Many forced the custom officials to quit their
job out of fear for their own lives
