CHARACTER

• Our trailer will consist of four characters.

1. Young Husband

2. Young Wife

3. Estate Agent

4. Solicitor

• The young husband and wife are the main characters and therefore feature most heavily in the trailer.

• The other two characters feature less in the film and are therefore given less screen time in the trailer.

CHARACTER OVERVIEW

• The young couple, who buy the house, are the main characters in the film and will therefore feature heavily in the trailer. As it is the husband that is the focus point of the whole film he will feature most in the trailer.

• The couple will be seen in different costumes throughout the trailer as they will be shots from different scenes on different days. They will mostly be dressed in relaxed clothing as they are in their own home. For example they may be wearing just trackies and t-shirts. However the wife may wear formal work clothes in some scenes.

YOUNG COUPLE

The couple are similar to the young couples in ‘Paranormal Activity’ (2007) and ‘The Strangers’ (2008) as they are also a young, fairly well off couple.

HUSBAND

Matt SmithAlthough Matt Smith isn’t associated with big screen work or the horror genre he would be a useful marketing tool as an up and coming British actor. Having him may separate our film to other products of the same genre that may be released at similar times.

Sam RileySam Riley would also be good for the part as he is also an up and coming British actor. He is known for serious parts such as ‘Pinkie Brown’ in 2010s brooding 60s set remake of ‘Brighton Rock’

The character is similar to the character played by Scott Speedman in 2008 psychological horror ‘The Strangers.

CostumeAs the husband is a stay at home writer he will mostly be wearing relaxed clothing. However towards the end of the film as he seems to be cracking more and more he will spend a lot of time in his pyjamas.

WIFE

Natalie PortmanNatalie Portman played a similar role in psychological thriller/ horror ‘Black Swan’ (2010). She also has the acting qualities the part as she is able to play vulnerable characters, e.g. in Black Swan.

Ellen PageEllen page has a level of acting success that would hopefully attract attention to our film. Recently she has been in ‘Inception’ a notable success. She is also around the correct age for the part.

The Character is similar to the character played by Liv Tyler in ‘The Strangers’ as she is aware that something is not right very early on in the film compared to the characters spouse.

CostumeThe wife will be dressed informally through most of the film however in some scenes she will be wearing formal clothing as she has a relatively high power job.

• The estate agent only features in the first act of the trailer, when they are buying the house. He will be relatively young, possibly new to the job, and therefore lacking in experience~ he sells a house he knows

when he knows there's a reason it sells for so little.

ESTATE AGENT

Russel Tovey, Andre GarfieldBoth of these actors are young enough to play the estate agent who is new to the job. However they would bring different characteristics to the role. Tovey would play an estate agent who is very inexperienced who doesn’t know that he’s selling a dodgey property whereas Garfield would play a smarter estate agent who is fully aware that there is something wrong with the property.

CostumeThe Estate agent will be smartly dressed and presentable. For example he may wear a blue shirt, with a white collar, and a red tie with black or grey trousers or possibly Chinos with smart shoes. He will also carry a clipboard and laptop case with a laptop and the documents for the house.

• The Doctor will be fairly old as this makes him seem more trustworthy as well as wiser and more authoritative. Age also suggests experience.

DOCTOR

Donald Sutherland, John HurtBoth these actors are old enough to suggest experience wisdom and authority and would therefore be good for the part. They are also established actors who would attract an audience.

CostumeThe Doctor will wear formal cloths as he has to be very professional as this is important for a doctor. For example he may wear a suit with a long formal coat. He will also carry a briefcase and not book.
