Azreen salleh

Page 4: Character

A strong-willed independent girl who leaves her hometown to pursue her studies in London.

Fiery-tempered girl who is outspoken and sometimes improper in her conduct- villagers said of her: “that’s girl nothing but trouble”, “disrespectful”

Has mixed feelings towards her sister- cherishes the happy childhood memory but resents the attention lavished on her sister.

Secretly in love with Mohd Asraf and was heartbroken when she discovered that he was in love with Madhuri.

Fiercely protective of her friends- Protected Asraf and assumed responsibility for letting Encik Mohan’s bull escape.

Practical and rational- did not believe in rumours or superstitions and was determined to find out the cause of her sister’s death.

Emotionally strong- remains composed eventhough she had lost her entire family and her mentor. Looks forward to leaving the past behind and hope for a new beginning in London.

Azreen’s beautiful and charming sister who was loved by everyone.

Was not Azreen’s real sister. She was adopted by Azreen’s parent when her real mother could not care for her.

Married the village chief and became his second wife.

Act as Azreen’s protector-defence her from their father’s beating,even when Azreen cause an accident that scalded Madhuri’s hence.

Extremely naïve- believe that Haji Ghani would give his blessing for her to be with Asraf.

Had a clandestine relationship with Ashraf and was planning to leave the village with him.

Polite and caring daughter- every morning, she will cook for her parent and take care of her sick mother before she back to Haji Ghani’s house.

Good looking and popular- worked as a trainee teacher in the village school.

Azreen’s childhood friend- befriend with Azreen and recruited her for the boys’ hockey team.

Caring and responsible-assume the role of caregiver to his ailing grandmother.

Independent since young- he worked at Encik Mohan’s farm as a part time job.

Love Madhuri and want to take her to Kuala Lumpur.

The old lady

Describes as a tall woman with grayish hair. She lived alone in the forest, isolated from the rest or the village.

Modern and educated- She was popular in the village during her younger days and was famed for her special dishes that could cure illnesses.

Was treated like and outcast by the villagers after her husband’s death.

Lives a solitary existence in the jungle until she befriended Azreen.

Shared a special relationship with Azreen- offered Azreen a sanctuary in her home whenever Azreen had trouble with her parents.

Assumed the role of mentor to Azreen- gave her advices and thought her the important of forgiveness.

Risked her life by entering the village to treat Asraf’s grandmother. Was eventually blamed for causing the death of Asraf’s grandmother.

Died a tragic death when Asraf and the villagers confronted her and accidently set fire to her home.

Azreen’s stern father. Clearly favoured Madhuri over Azreen. Violent- Would resort to beating Azreen

when she misbehaved. Proud- was reluctant to accept the

wheelchair from Datin Sharifah. Not supportive of Azreen’s ambition-

Accused her of deserting the family when she decided to pursue her studies in London.

Killed Madhuri in a fit of fury when he discovered her affair with Asraf.

Died of a heart attack when he was confronted by Madhuri’s real mother.
