Extension ActivitiesEnjoy this book with your child. Books are a good way to prompt other activities and learning experiences. You can talk about the story, pictures and characters. Encourage your child to ask questions. Can your child help you to retell the story? You can also use this story to talk about road safety points such as: • Who is setting a good example in the story? • Ben knows how to cross roads. Why can’t he take Charlie to the party on his own? • Why can wearing hoods be dangerous when crossing the road? • Why is it important to wear a high visibility vest?

Other activities to do with your childPlay Follow my Leader or Simon Says to encourage your child to follow instructions and copy good behaviourRed for Danger – red is used to show stop and danger in many places, can you find these in books or signs in the area you live?Try on lots of different hats and hoods – do any stop you from seeing clearly. Which ones are safe to wear when crossing the road?
