In 2001, the oldest banking institute in the world, Chartered Bankers wished to upgrade and modernise their examination and assessment arrangements for Members of the Institute, the task was a complex one: to design and develop an online examination system that was secure and able to provide instant feedback to examines as well as comprehensive reports to Institute staff. eCom Scotland took on the task.

The Chartered Bankers reputation is based on the quality of its educational and continuing professional development programmes – ranging from Associate, Members and Chartered Banker status to Certificates and Diplomas in, amongst others, Investment Planning, Mortgage Advice, Call Centre Management and Customer Relationship Management. When it came to setting up online assessment procedures it was vital that the quality and reliability of these matched the Institute’s reputation.

To the essential ingredients of security and reliability eCom Scotland was able to add flexibility and responsiveness. The basic task was to design and develop online assessment which could provide complete security for those being tested, allow control of the time available for their assessment, provide immediate feedback on their performance and allow Chartered Banker’s staff to monitor overall progress and provide suggestions for future study.

More important than ever during times of economic slowdown and reduced budgets, Talent Management maximises the effectiveness of your staff whilst providing a clear and profitable route into the future via:

Leadership Development Skills Management Talent and Workforce gap analysis Performance Management Succession Planning Competency Management Communications

Talent Management is a strategy that fully integrates all the functions of a modern Human Resource (HR) department, where learning and assessment are key elements of the HR function, and where leadership is cultivated by empowering staff.

Talent Management is a cost effective solution, where savings result from integration of development programs, reduced administration, technical instruction and business overheads while generating a significant reduction in recruitment expense by identifying and nurturing talent from within the existing workforce.

As experts in the field, eCom Scotland’s research and innovation kept in line with trends in eLearning Applications which led to the creation of SkillsLocker, a Talent Management Application for use by all sizes of organisations. Now everyone has the opportunity to maximise effectiveness of staff and plan clearly for the future.

The project commenced with 250 candidates at two centres. Over the years the provisions have grown to 111 centres, over 60+ exam titles, with nearly 4000 invigilated exams taken in 2013 so far and in excess of 30,000 mock exams undertaken.

With such student numbers coming through the system, communication and reporting are essential. Apart from those for the participant, reports can be generated which allow administrative staff to list and merge descriptive general data. Group comparisons can be produced, as well as item statistics.

Incremental research and development since 2001 has seen the creation of different question types such as essays, online marking and verification of results, mock exams and more recently mobile enabled mock exams.

eCom Scotland lived up to its reputation for quality and service and the Institute’s online assessment has extended its long-held reputation for consistency and reliability. As those involved in the financial sector understand the value of confidence and dependability.
