The education you receive in the ChFC® program will make you

a more diverse client base. Not only will you learn the essentials
of financial planning, including insurance, income taxation,
retirement planning, investments, and estate planning, but the
ChFC® program addresses the areas where the rules change a bit.
These include behavioral finance, financial planning for families
with special needs dependents, small business planning, financial
planning for clients in diverse communities, financial planning
for divorce, and more.

Who should have the ChFC® designation?
The ChFC® is for financial planners who want to take their existing
knowledge, and build upon it with practical tactics designed to offer the
best solutions for clients and their families. This rigorous program prepares
advisors with in-depth education on financial planning principles, and the
applications for those principles based on real-life case studies.
Planning to sit for the CFP Board’s exam? Students who successfully
complete the ChFC® curriculum will meet the educational requirements to
take the CFP® Certification Examination.

HS 300 Financial Planning: Process and Environment
An overview of the financial planning process, including
communication techniques, behavioral finance, statement
preparation, and more. Also discusses the roles and
responsibilities of financial advisors.
HS 311 Fundamentals of Insurance Planning
Focuses on the role of planning for risk management needs,
including fundamental principles of risk management, credit
risk and protection, insurance, and more.
HS 321 Fundamentals of Income Taxation
Examines the federal income tax system, with topics including
individual taxation, taxation of income and capital assets,
passive activity loss rules, and more.
HS 326 Planning for Retirement Needs
Focuses on helping businesses and individuals plan for
retirement, including asset accumulation and distribution
planning, qualified pension plans and setup, profit-sharing,
IRAs, and more.

HS 328 Investments
Covers principles of investments and their application to
financial planning, including securities laws and market
structure, asset classifications, risk and return, and more.
HS 330 Fundamentals of Estate Planning
Covers various aspects of estate and gift tax planning, including
probate process, types of property interests, transfer strategies,
and more.
HS 333 Personal Financial Planning: Comp. Case Analysis
Applies students’ knowledge and skill sets in personal financial
planning techniques to a comprehensive case study. Students
will construct into a prioritized financial plan that addresses the
core financial planning disciplines.
HS 347 Contemporary Applications in Financial Planning
Explores the unique challenges associated with special needs
clients, divorce, business succession, behavioral finance,
financial plan development, and retirement planning. Up-to-
date content and compelling case studies provide students
with a complex yet comprehensive understanding of financial
planning in these important areas.

The mark of ChFC® is the property of The American College of Financial Services and may be used by individuals who have successfully completed the initial and ongoing certification requirements for this designation. The College can disallow use of the ChFC® if advisors do not adhere to the program’s ethical standards, continuing education, and other requirements.
