This month’s issue contains news of the Club over the months of August and September, which has been a
quiet time. However, the Calendar Sales Team and the Golf Committee have been more than busy. We are
also getting ready to begin the curling and gavel seasons; details are on the website home page.
Editorial I am writing this in the knowledge that this day last
year I was enjoying time out in the Rockies; such is
life. Turning away from such thoughts I come back to the Highlands, not so high but just as
spectacular.
Spectacular is the word I also have to use for the
members in their support of our charities. Ian Baird’s team have been selling Calendars at the
Perth Show, the Rotary Fayre, the Yesteryear Rally and Perth Races. George Cameron has been
working with Balnacraig School, and The Golf Committee run by Willy Monks and George Delgaty
organised the Charity day at Dunkeld Golf Club with
great success.
I haven’t asked for pictures recently but I do think it would be nice if everyone could record such
events a bit more.
Club Secretary Janet Simpson with a Calendar sale at the Rotary Fare on 31st August
Peter MacDougall, Club President, welcomes our
newest member, Mike Wilkinson
Mike Graham became the Club Golf Champion at the end of September following his play-off against Steve
Blackett at Dunning Golf Club. Harry Cooper won the Consolation Cup in the same competition held over
the past months through the Golf Ladder organised by
Bill Smith.

Ian Cairns, guest of Mike Graham,
gave his talk "Golf over two Inches" at the beginning of August. He spoke of
the origins and development of the
North Inch Golf course which he has explained in his new book.
Nicky Forrester of the Tayside Police explained the background
to a service based in Perth, known as Tayside Intensive Support Service, modelled on an existing service in Glasgow (Persistent
Offender Project). This is a community safety initiative targeting offenders who commit acquisitive type crimes linked to their drug
and alcohol addictions, it was found to be beneficial to provide an active outreach service to these individuals, taking them to existing services in the Glasgow area.
Sean Laverick, a consultant maxillofacial surgeon at Ninewells
Hospital in Dundee, was introduced by Club member Gordon Clark. Sean has been working for many years in disaster areas and war
zones. The fascinating but sometimes harrowing account of his
work in many of the world’s disaster areas was an enlightening and personal journey into a rarely discussed topic and was well
received by the Club Members.
A facet of his work is to achieve sustainability in the services required in each region for which he has formed the charity ‘Face
Facts, to enable the training of surgeons from third world countries to be able to carry out life-changing work in their own country.

Some of the 18 teams taking part in the Perth Kinnoull Rotary Charity Golf Day held on 4th September
18 Teams enjoyed another fine day up at the Dunkeld & Birnam Golf Course on Wednesday 4th September.
We were again indebted to the Golf Club for their wonderful support, assistance and hospitality afforded to us in the running of our Charity Golf Day.
After everything is taken into consideration the Club should have raised over £2,100 to-wards our chosen
Charities. This would not have been possible without the support of the Perth Kinnoull Rotary Members who organised the day and made sure everything ran smoothly. Special thanks go the following Members: Bob Reid
for getting the required number of teams, Willie Monks for his organisation of the running of the golf event and
to George Delgaty who organised the splendid raffle and the team goodies. Also a Special thanks to Hardies Property & Construction Consultants for their sponsorship of the team ball.
We would also like to acknowledge the support of our Hole Sponsors and those who have donated Prizes which
is very much appreciated, this allows us to keep costs down and maximise the amount we can raise on the
day.
We thank all COMPETITORS for their SUPPORT and hope to see them again for the SHOTGUN START up at Dunkeld & Birnam Golf Club on WEDNESDAY 3rd September 2014. Just weeks before the Ryder Cup at
Gleneagles, Friday 26th to Sunday 28th September 2014
