What brought you toart in the first placeand what do youthink that it gives you?

I started noticing art in my teens.I really loved it and was drawnto it so I decided to study fine artsin my late teens/early 20’s.I found that it gave me a voice anda way to make sense of my world.

It has been said that good looking people are treated better by societythan their less good looking counterparts. Yet your women look vulnerableand damaged in some way. Are you intending for us to consider their pain?

I really only started to draw andpaint portraits in the last 3 years.Before that my subjects werevaried and often conceptual.I guess I was still trying to findan art that ‘fit’ with me.I enjoy the female portrait asit’s a way for me to try andfind out what it is that makessomething beautiful and theconveying of emotion is whatmotivates me now.

I guess what someone looks like on the outside isnot always a reflection of who they are on the inside.We are all ‘feeling’ beings and often it’s their emotionsI’m trying to explore and convey in their portraits.

I guess I like exploringbeauty and its underlyingraw emotion.

Do you see yourself inyour characters?

I have a little studioarea in my housethat I work in.. butyou can createanywhere so I’moften found at thekikitchen table or onthe lounge roomfloor.. whereverI’m at really.

I see a reflection of their range of emotions ratherthan their looks. Although I guess as a brunetteI’m drawn to the dark haired ladies and as a bitof a rebel myself.. I do like them to be a bitnaughtier at times too.
