E S M H U N T H W O D SCIENCE GEOGRAPHY HISTORY COMPUTING FRENCH RE C V ART MUSIC DT P P C HISTORY This half term we will be learning all about The Stone Age. We will be researching this time period including investigat ing historical events, looking at artifacts and exploring the impact this era had on the wider world. SCIENCE In science our main focus will be materials and rocks. We will be working scientically to investigate, record, present and evaluate results for research and information we have learned relating to materials.  GEOGRAPHY With a focus local areas and the UK we will be analyzing land use and materials. We will develop our geographical knowledge and map skills using Atlases and local maps.  We will be investigating Stonehenge and using some of the information to link to our English discussion text unit.  COMPUTING In computing we will be developing our use of computer systems and the Internet and exploring the main uses. We will have a particular focus on communication and look into the ways in which the internet and technology is used to communicate. We will use these skills for research within other subjects.  FRENCH We will be developing our speaking, reading, writing and listening skills through recognition of key words and phrases. We will study stories, songs and rhymes and practice using out learning to communicate in French.  RE In RE this half term we are learning about Christianity. Our focus will be on the God and the beliefs that Christians hold about God. We will learn about the old Testament including stories which Christians believe reveal aspects of God. MUSIC In music we will be learning to play the French Horn. We will be taught by a specialist Teacher each week who will help us to read music, play notes and perform as a class. ART Our learning in Art will consist of studying British Artist Barbara Hepworth and using clay to produce 3d work. We will be using different art techniques to design and make artwork relating to Rocks and Soils. DT In DT we will be focusing on cooking and nutrition. We will be looking at a range of different skills needed to make Soda Bread and will put these into practice to make the bread ourselves. This half term we will be looking at local stories. We will start by reading a local story – ‘Jingling Geordie’s Hole’ and focus on the sett ing and features. After this we will look at a range of other examples and then use our learning t o help us plan, write and edit our own. Our next unit of work will be discussion texts. This will be closely linked to our topic: Stone and Metal. We will research stone and metal, including The Stone Age and Iron Age and use the information we collect to write our own discussion texts. The texts will answer a range of questions and follow typical features of discussion texts. This half term we will be working for The Time Institute to solve a range of written problems involving addition and subtraction. We will have a focus on formal written methods. We will be developing our learning about place value up to 4 digit numbers and increasing our knowledge and understanding of measures – including time. Each week we will develop our times table knowledge through interactive challenges and activities and a small challenge each Friday to track our progress and areas for improvement. We have started Math’s Boot Camp – practising written math's problems – and will continue this over the year. This half term our PSHE topic is New Beginnings. We will be discussing achievements, targets, how to face challenge s positively, rules and responsibiliti es, relationship s and friendships and developing our understanding of empathy and behavior towards others. PSHE will consist of circle time, group and individual activities and a range of interactive tasks. This half term will be taking part in team and individual sporting games. We will be taught a range skills in order to successfully play different games in pairs and groups. We will practice and improve running, throwing, catching and jumping techniques and try to beat our personal bests. We will work individually and in pairs/teams t o develop a range of skills.
