Chetan Kelkar -Professional relationship with Co-Workers

I work for a company called Agile Technosys with close to 200+ employees whom I know. Many of them work with me and report to me directly. For many I speak to their parents and their families also know me very well. Here are a few things that should always be considered and ensured to maintain healthy professional and personal relationships with colleagues at workplace:

***LearnUnderstand company policies and ethics regarding in-office relationships. Certain companies have policies against inter office relationships especially those which are romantically linked. In such a case you must always respect that and setup a strong boundary to avoid any such instances which will bring up a bigger issue at a later date. ***FocusThe biggest and the most important reason as to why you are in a workspace is to work! While fun and frolic is appreciate by most of the employers during free time when at work one is expected to fully put in soul in the task at hand rather than indulging in irrelevant chats and gossips.

***LimitsKnow and maintain your limits, even if you have a good personal relationship with a colleague always remember that he / she could be promoted instead of you and one fine day, you do not want your friend + colleague be charged with showing sympathy or at worst favoring you since you are more of a friend to him / her.***Stay away from favorsIt is of utmost importance to ensure that you do not ask for work related favors or do work related favors, especially when it is against the company policies. Making late mark corrections, reporting for a friend, covering up a mistake since he is friend et all stand in this category.

***Draw a lineIn case you are a team manager dealing with a few colleagues Draw up a line what you can do for them and what you cannot do for them and more importantly make them aware of it immediately. This truly helps.

***Respect others, others will respect you.Honestly the way I look at it is nobody is a friend, neither he is a foe. People are there to work together as a team to deliver results and eventually success. Everyone has its own shortcoming to be covered within the team. One must respect each other irrespective of what the scenario is.
