SYNOPSIS:Engineering procedures, installation equipment and offshore services for the CABGOC - Kuito C replacement electrical equipment project (KCR) to allow them to monitor and control all drill center C wells.

WORK SCOPE:For this project, InterMoor was responsible for the planning and execution of the installation of a new umbilical, the umbilical termination assembly (UTA), electrical distribution unit (EDU) and electronic flying leads (EFL). Services provided included onshore project management, installation engineering and analysis and offshore project management required for the successful completion of the project. In addition, InterMoor provided installation hardware and coordinated shipping for delivery to the DUCO yard.

CHALLENGES:Challenges presented by the installation included conflicts with the existing vessel structure, limited crane capacity, limited deck visibility and limited deck space. Additional obstacles included the placement of equipment under the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) deck and limited room for additional equipment including the EDU.

SOLUTION:To successfully complete the project, it was divided into three phases: equipment mobilization, umbilical installation; and EDU, EFL, and FLIS installation.

ACTION:The Mærsk Achiever was used for installation operations. The Achiever is a dynamically positioned (DPS-2) multi-service vessel (MSV) with two heavy-work class ROV systems, the Magnum and Millennium. The MSV performed all subsea work during all phases of the project, except for the installation of the I-tube kick-off spool to the floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO) I-tube.

RESULTS:Despite several obstacles and unexpected occurrences, the project was safely and successfully completed in April 2011 – 20 percent faster than expected and with less than 10 percent downtime. Kuito is now capable of controlling and monitoring all drill center C wells.
