WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE?

There are four major types of child abuse. Physical abuse. Sexual abuse Psychological abuse Neglect

WHO ABUSES CHILDREN?

Most of the time child abuser is not stranger.

Sometimes strangers. It includes neighbours. Teachers sometimes. Most of the times uncle and aunts.

PHYSICAL ABUSE

Deliberate infliction of serious injuries. Bruises. Fractures. Burns. Repeated harsh treatment.

SEXUAL ABUSE

Involvement of child in sexual activities. Inappropriate touch. Exposure of child to pornography or

prostitution. Knowledge of sexual behaviour

inappropriate for child’s age.

PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE

Parents making mean remarks on child. Making child feel unwanted. Illegal behaviour taught to child.

NEGLECT

Failure to provide food Shelter Medical care. Education Guidance Residing in dangerous environment.

PRECAUTIONS

Parents need to be child’s best friend. Teach children about strange and unusual

behaviour in people they know. Teach child about good touch and bad

touch. Teach children to refuse things offered by

strangers like candy, rides or gifts. There are organisations like “child line” is

operating ask for help from them if needed.

CONT.

Never let your child sit on anybody’s lap. Never force your child to visit any adult’s

house with whom he/she is not comfortable.
