Our Students

Childhood Practice Lynda Lewis

Whilst juggling her studies with her family life and career, Lynda has gained an impressive number of qualifications at the College, including a PDA in Childcare and Education, HND in Childhood Practice and most recently she achieved her PDA Childhood Practice Level 9 – becoming the first student from West Lothian College to achieve this qualification, and one of the first in Scotland.

I’ve been studying at West Lothian College since 2001 and throughout this time lecturers have all been second to none throughout. They really encouraged me to persevere. The support I received during the PDA Childhood Practice Level 9 course was exceptional. I found the distance learning a challenge as I’m quite a visual person and prefer face to face interaction, but lecturers were extremely supportive and I was able to visit the College to ask them about any queries I had. The one to one sessions with staff helped me a lot.I would definitely recommend anyone who is interested in looking to study childcare to consider the courses at West Lothian College. I’ve never looked back.

The College is successful because we attract students who want to improve employment and career prospects.

Sport, Fitness and Exercise Shannon QuinnShannon began her journey studying Intermediate 2 Sport and Fitness at West Lothian College. She then successfully completed HNC in Fitness, Health and Exercise. Shannon then moved on to achieve her HND in Applied Sports Science and secured a place at Edinburgh Napier University on the Degree in Sport and Fitness with direct entry into third year. After graduating from West Lothian College, not only did Shannon move on to study at University but succeeded in securing a job at a local fitness centre.

My message to other young people is, don’t let fear overcome you, just go for it. I definitely doubted myself at the start and there were times when I felt like giving up but I had fantastic support from my lecturers. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me to overcome the tough times, especially the lecturers and my friends from my course. The HND in Applied Sports Science was really interesting and included physiology, psychology, bio-mechanics and nutrition. I’m now in third year at Edinburgh Napier University and I have just passed my first assessment, so everything is great.
