1. Background

We would like to propose an action of “Children Mini Conference on Peacekeeping and

Conflict Resolution”. We are going to invite some grade 5 or 6 students from some different

schools in Surabaya which have different backgrounds, nationalities, ethnics, beliefs and

religions to have a discussion and work together in one team through challenging and fun

activities. Hopefully, in the end of the conference the participants are able to promote

tolerance, respect and understanding and finally take further actions in their schools. We

believe this action is appropriate because it is related to our Central Idea which is “Accepting

Social Responsibility can contribute towards a Sustainable Future”. By doing this action,

we expect that we could reach our goal which is to build awareness of the importance of

peacekeeping and to promote tolerance and good friendships among the differences.

We believe this action will meet our Lines of Inquiry which is the Importance of

peacekeeping to realize a sustainable future and possible actions to maintain peacekeeping or

solve conflict. It is because in our Mini Conference we are going to make some rolling

activities about how to solve conflicts or maintain peace and we are going to find out the

importance of peacekeeping to realize a sustainable future.

By carrying out this action, we will apply the IB PYP Learners profiles of being

communicator because in the mini conference we are going to communicate and interact

through games and activities. We are applying of being open-minded because we are going to

have discussions and we will share and listen to different opinions, thoughts, and ideas. We

will also be balanced because we have to use and organize everything very carefully and

wisely. Then, we also apply of being thinker in the discussion or problem solving.

We will also apply the IB PYP attitudes of showing our cooperation in the conference

activities, such as solving problems together with our groups and working in a team. We

should show appreciation and respect because we need to respect and appreciate other

people’s different cultures, ideas, feelings, and thoughts. Showing tolerance also must be

applied because we need to tolerate to the differences that we have. Then, showing our

commitment when we need to commit to the agreement and declaration that we have made

in the end of the conference.

We also are able to apply IB PYP Skills because we need to show our communication skills

and applying our social skills by working as a team, communicate well in the conference, and

be well-organized in each activity. Lastly is to apply self-management skill starting from

planning the action until the follow up activities.

2. Description of the Action

2.1 The name of the conference is “Children Mini Conference on Peace Keeping and Conflict

Resolution”

2.2 Place

The conference will take place in the Staff Room of Sekolah Ciputra, Surabaya

2.3 Time and Date

The conference will be on the 12th February 2009 from 08.30 to around 15.00

2.4 Time Allocation

The time allocation is around 1 or 2 weeks, during those weeks we will have a follow up

actions to monitor the result of the declaration

2.5 Organization of Activity:

The organization of the activity is:

Participants: the representatives of the grade 5 or 6 students from some of

elementary schools in Surabaya

Transportation: school bus/car, our own car

Equipment:

Equipment : LCD, laptop, OHP, tables, chairs, ball, cones, hula-hoop, mattress,

canvas, paper, paint, glue, sticky paper, map, digital camera, handy-cam,

dispenser, certificates, nametag, sound system ,mike, etc…

2.6 Budget

We will have Rolling Activities as the main activities, they are:

4. My contribution to the community

1. We belive this mini conference can bridge the differences among the participants and is able to

promote the tolerance and understanding through some activities and discussions and hopefully

in the end of the conference, the declaration and agreement can be applied in their schools as a

basic rules to solve conflicts.

2. We also believe this mini conference can be one of the ways to spread the mission of

peacekeeping and conflict resolution in a local and global perspectives, in this action, we try to

do it in the school community

3. After the conference, we hope the participants can be the ambassador of peace in their school.

They can know how to solve conflicts that happen in their daily life. We hope that we could

reach our goal and it will impacts also to the community so that our surroundings can have

peace.

The conference could them about profiles, attitudes and skills.
