DESCRIPTION

Children Have Rights ❖ UNICEF believes that children are human beings with a distinct set of rights instead of passive objects of care and charity. ❖ UNICEF is working to protect the Rights of all children, especially children in war torn countries, or children with disabilities. ❖ Around the world, at least 93 million children—or 1 in 20 of those aged 14 or younger—live with a moderate or severe disability. ❖ Children with disabilities are targets of discrimination, exclusion, stigmatization, neglect, exploitation, violence and abuse. Worst of all, children with disabilities are too often invisible—ignored by governments and communities. ❖ We believe in ZERO discrimination against children with disabilities.

Convention on the Rights of the Child

The United States is the only country in the U.N. that has not

ratified the CRC. UNICEF is asking all of its high school members to sign a petition

asking the President, and our congressmen, to ratify the CRC.http://www.unicefusa.org/help/advocate/ratify-convention-rights-child

International treaty recognized that children are not possessions, but people

who have human rights. It also recognized the incredible importance of parents and

families in providing the best environment for children to grow.
