China and America relations no doubt will be the most important world partnership in the

21st Century. How the two work together will determine the future for our children andmany generations to come. It is essential that both sides reach a harmony consensus for

world harmony. America is currently leading in both hard power and soft power.

America, the most endowed major nation in land and resources, still has a lot of advantages over China. America is the land of opportunity in the 20th century, and her

established competitive industries and well endowed universities have attracted many

immigrant talents. But, some of these advantages may be reversing because the big

China market is now rising as another land of opportunities for scientific and artistictalents.

China will surpass America as the global economic power, but it is almost impossible for her to surpass America in per capital GDP as well as military hard power – unless some

technology breakthrough, such as renewable energy, makes the world a more level

playing field. Until such time, China will have to work hard to play catch up. However,Chinese leaders know her advantages and disadvantages well enough not to confront

America. Her advantages are her attractive ancient culture, her emphasis of the concept

of scientific development, Confucian emphasis on education and work ethics, and the

rediscovery of universal harmony values, which the world has neglected. China cannotclaim the exclusivity of these advantages in these days of internet communication, just as

America cannot claim exclusivity to technology advantages. In today’s competitive

world, any new breakthrough in essential technology will be learned by all within sixmonths. It takes some time for America to change direction and to learn harmony values.

But America, the young dynamic country, had learned European Democracy and science

and become the 20th century world power by her natural endowment of resources and a

large market. She can again advocate harmony renaissance and retain her influence tokeep her leadership. This is what is most recommendable to America. The key lies in

America’s willingness to be open to Eastern culture.

From the Daoist philosophy perspective, America is more a Yang than Yin power. By

virtue of her European cultural heritage and her hard power advantage, she is more

inclined to use hard power and confrontational diplomacy. However, the multilateralworld inevitably will be more receptive to Harmony Diplomacy. As discussed in my

previous articles, in Yang there is always Yin and vice versa. Hard confrontational

power unchecked can wear itself out sooner than soft power. America needs to cultivate

more soft power so as to be in a more dynamic balance with China. That is the reasonAmerica must reach Harmony Consensus with China for World Harmony.

China today is more willing to learn from the West than is the West from her. Chinesegovernment and citizens know more about the West than vice versa. The Chinese media

may be state owned, but are driven by the need to learn from the outside, because of her

government’s policy of reform and opening up. Ultimately, technology advance andcultural influence is what sustains a nation’s development and progress as long as the

nation is eager to learn. Politics is more transient, and governments can always evolve

towards more harmony with their citizens. A government that is in harmony with her

citizens during her developmental stage will be most stable, regardless of what type of  political system. Harmony is a dynamic balance of all social factors in a nation and

assures unity in diversity that will guarantee stable and sustainable development.

At the moment, America is not as willing to learn from China. American citizens are notwell served by her media with its self-censorship and commercially vested interest for

survival. Asking Americans on the street to name 20 Chinese notables will likely net lessintelligent information than asking that question about important Americans to the

Chinese. The 2009 World Media Summit Beijing declaration for more fair, accurate and

diverse world reporting is a step in the right direction.

Jim, as National Correspondent for  Atlantic Monthly and your on-the-scene reporting

from China, you have won the respect from the media that America will listen to. I have

great respect for the articles you have written about China and America, especially your  prescription for America in “How America Can Rise Again?” Like you, I remain hopeful

for America; however, you and I need to write more to bridge East and West differences

for World Harmony. I am coming from the unique position for having written profuselyabout Harmony Virtues, Harmony Renaissance, Harmony Consensus, Harmony Faith and

Harmony Diplomacy. Under President Obama, there is a good opportunity for America

to advocate Harmony Renaissance and World Harmony because of his multi-ethnic background. Harmony belongs to the world. It is the fundamental law of the universe.

No country can claim it exclusively. Harmony for unity in diversity is all-inclusive of

world cultures and religions. America successfully advocated Freedom and Democracy

in the 20th century. We can do it again as the leading Harmony country in the 21st

century. Harmony Renaissance is the next wave of creative energy that mankind is

waiting for to lead us to the next level of accomplishment beyond European Renaissance.

We can pool our resources and influence to be more effective in working for World

Harmony. Harmony Renaissance is the inevitable tide in the coming multilateral win-

win brave New World.

In Service of Harmony Renaissance.

Director General

World Harmony Organization

San Francisco, [email protected]

Jim,

I am glad you are in support of World Harmony Community. As a matter of fact this is a

great opportunity for China and America to have a dialogue on Harmony Consensus.Any consensus these two great nations can come up with will enhance the images of both

nations tremendously. If your time is constrained, we do not need to coauthor. I have

momentum and a lot of harmony inspiration going. Terms such as Harmony Virtues,

Harmony Diplomacy, Harmony Consensus, Harmony Faith, and Harmony Renaissanceare being accepted as working nomenclature for harmony values in practice. Based on

the fast spreading trend these terms will become everyday language soon.

We can talk later on in the day. That is better for me also. You can call me after your

meetings at 415.585.2474. I have suggestions for you and me to explore. Or, let me

know what will be good time for me to call. I am free after 2:00 PM my time.

As Americans, we have a responsibility to advocate Harmony Renaissance as a young,

dynamic and destined nation. World Harmony Organization is a non-profit, public benefit California Corporation. We enjoy great following and we propagate by resonance

through many U.S. blogsites and Internet Media. We can discuss this and your

invaluable opinion when we continue our dialogue.

We can work the synergistic and play very important coordinated cross reference roles

for world harmony, which is the inevitable tide. As it is now, you and I will beremembered by America and China. You have done great work for U.S. – China

understanding and harmony, which is absolutely essential for world peace and harmony.

Without harmony, peace cannot last. Harmony is dynamic balance and eternal. Peace is

static and end state.

Best

Greetings Francis – Now I have an adjustment in plans. I am free for a phonetalk from 2:30-2:45 Eastern time, but then I have to go to a (new) meeting at

8/14/2019 China America Harmony Consensus for World Harmony (2)

the magazine’s office. We can talk briefly then, or later in the day –especially if you are on the west coast. HERE IS A SHORT VERSION of my situation: I am very much in sympathy withthe analysis you set out for the need for US-China harmonious collaboration. In my own journalistic way, I’ve been working toward a similar goal.

HOWEVER, as a practical matter I’m not in a position to work out a bookabout it. I have two books under contract that I need to finish about threemonths from now, and then another one a year after that. I am happy to bea supportive member of this community. But in practical terms, my book-writing time really is committed for the year or two ahead.

I thought it was worth giving that info in a clear and friendly way. I amhappy to talk at 2:30 for a limited time, or at more leisure later on in theday. Thanks and sincere best wishes, Jim

 Jim,

Following is added to the attached version. I appreciate if you will do a quick edit. I am

using the short summary to start discussion with James Fallows.

Jim is the leading American journalist that has done great work to increase U.S. Chinaunderstanding. The world should be thankful for Jim's objective first hand reporting.

What Jim accomplished is full of insight and is frankly quite rare among Western

reporters. There are a few American thinkers outside of the media however have writtenthought provoking essays that are worth reading and constructive.

World Harmony Organization maintains that it is a win win formula for U.S. China toteam up on Harmony Renaissance. America is great in advocating great thinking. China

cannot do it without American consensus. We are all American and we can assorb what

is good East or West.
