One of China’s most beautiful nature reserves, Zhangjiajie has wonderful hiking trails in a serene environment of staggering natural beauty. The Forest Park was established by the state council in 1982 as the 1st national forest park of China. The park is known for it’s unique landscape with lush forests dominated by quartzite sandstone pillars. Bubbling brooks and charming lakes wind around the area and connect giant caves. On the way up you will pass by the monkey, the deer, the silver pheasant, the love-bird. At every turn the ancient pines will stare, leaning like the crotchety old men they are in their ancient soil. In spring you will smell the Goddess Flower camellia, the orchid, the Chinese Azelea.

The Sika Deer is one of the best known precious animals of China. In ancient times, it was regarded as an auspicious animal and called "a divine creature".

Female deer are smaller than male ones. Stags have horns that are generally made up of four forks. The Sika Deer has a graceful and well-shaped body and its fur color changes with seasons. In summer, the hair is brownish yellow or chestnut red with no villi. Lots of well-arranged white dots are scattered on its body. The dots are like plum flowers that are shining in the sunshine. So the deer is also called “plum flower deer” in Chinese.
The Golden Monkeys live in broadleaf forests or coniferous and broadleaved mixed forests 1400-3000 meters above sea level. Their habitat is almost the same as that of the Giant Panda. And like the Giant Panda, the Golden Monkey is unable to bear scorching heat and can survive severe cold.

The Golden Monkey is a gregarious animal that live in family groups, with the biggest herds of up to 600 individuals. Such a large group is something of a rarity in primates. Golden Monkeys mainly live in trees and they also seek food on the ground. Their main food includes tree leaves, tender branches,flowers, fruits, bark, roots, insects, birds and bird eggs.
Egrets typically frequent marshes, lakes and humid forests. They are wading birds and catch small fishes, shrimps, crabs, tadpoles and crustaceans in shallow waters for food. They build large, untidy nests in trees and bushes or on the ground.

The camellia plant is native to Asia and has anywhere from 150 to 200 species. It is an evergreen bush that is small but has large showy flowers.
