So what do you do when you plan to go to the Green Market to f ind this month’s blog dish and it’s closed? … You go to Chinatown.

Why? Because Chinatown is so inspirational and to me, the last bit of raw New York City left. It is totally authentic and real (other than the fake Ray Bans and Louis Vuitton handbags).

Chinatown is f illed with style. The array of colors, the noise, the cornucopia of smells and the cast of characters that incorporate this little China drives me to de-sign. I love how I get yelled at (in Chinese) by the f ish guy I am buy-ing frozen wild shrimp from, who also yells at my photographer for sticking her lens in his frogs.

Today, I’m letting China-town make my meal rather than Union Sqaure farmers. Shrimp and avocado is a tasty, light summer dish and very easy to make. This dish is also perfectly accompanied by the X-rated fortune cookies that I hap-pened upon when at the For-tune Cookie Company in China town. They make for a perfect Valentine’s Day or, as we are in wedding season, for a perfect anniversary dinner for two.
