Successful & Fruitful Year 2017
In 2017, CGCA successfully organized the Annual Conference,
awarded the Young Researchers Awards and coordinated the
“Chunhui Plan” trip visiting 4 institutions in China. CGCA regional
branches also organized several academic forums and helped a few
institutions from China with their recruitment in Germany. For details
please check the following content.

Annual Conference
The 29th Academic Annual Conference of the Chinese-German Chemical Association
(CGCA®) was held successfully on 16th‒17th June 2017 in Bremen. It was hosted by CGCA®
(VR 17428, Cologne) and co-organized by the Educational Department of the Chinese
Embassy in Germany and the Bremen Center for Computational Materials Science (BCCMS)
at the University of Bremen. In addition, the conference has also received support from
several companies, i.e., Evonik Industries, Springer Publishing Company, Nanopolis Suzhou
Co., Ltd, Shanghai JINDUN Industrial Co., Ltd, Bohai University, Harbin Engineering
University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Dongzhao Changtai Group. Nearly 90
scholars from China, Germany, and Netherland, focusing on chemistry, chemical engineering,
chemical industry, and related fields, participated in this event. On behalf of this conference
organizing committee, the conference chairman, Dr. Gang Wei addressed the opening
session with a warm welcome to all the participants.

In the five sessions, 19 excellent academic reports and 3 enterprise reports were given
by outstanding scholars and experts all over Germany. The sessions included chemistry and

materials, catalysis and environment, biological and organic chemistry, industry and career,
as well as the young researchers award.
Renowned chemists, including Prof. Dr. Fei Ding (University of Hannover), Prof. Dr. Lucio
Colombi Ciacchi (University of Bremen), Dr. Peng Gao (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology,
Karlsruhe), Dr. Mengmeng Li (Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherland), Dr. Libo Ma
(Leibniz-Institut für Festkörper- und Werkstoffforschung Dresden), Dr. Rongchao Pan
(Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg), Dr. ChangJiang Yao (Julius-
Maximilians-Universität Würzburg), Dr. Igor Ying Zhang (Fritz Haber Institute, Berlin), Dr.
Feng Zhu (Chemnitz University of Technology), were invited to attend the conference and
gave wonderful academic presentations. Furthermore, in response to the policy of
recruitment of global experts to China and enabling scholars and students to understand the
current recruitment program, Prof. Dr. Zhenhua Wang (Beijing Institute of Technology), Prof.
Dr. Kedi Cai (Bohai University), and Mr. Wenxin Wang (Harbin Engineering University, China)
were invited to attend this conference and introduced the talent recruitment plans of their
respective universities.

On 16th June at 18:00 the CGCA® annual official member meeting was successfully held.
Dr. Xiaoyan Cao as the treasurer, stated report on the committee’s financial situation in
2016. Furthermore, the election of new committee members was carried out successfully.
The 2017 CGCA® committee are Dr. Yujin Tong as the chairman, Dr. Rongchao Pan as
executive vice chairman, Dr. Gang Wei as the vice chairman, Dr. Xiaoyan Cao as the
treasurer, Ms. Lin Song as the secretary, Dr. Chang Ding, Mr. Mengbo Zhou, Ms. Rui Xu, Ms.
Yu Qiao, and Mr. Shuhao Zhang.
New board of CGCA
On 17th June the organizing committee presented the “CGCA® Young Researchers
Award” for the fourth time. The aim was to encourage and reward excellent young
researchers in the field of chemistry or chemical engineering. The applicants were
prescreened the CGCA® academic group and the short-listed six applicants were evaluated
by three professors as referees, i.e., Prof. Dr. Christoph Janiak (University of Duesseldorf), Dr.
Lucio Colombi Ciacchi (University of Bremen), Dr. Roland Roth (University of Tuebingen). The

three applicants with the highest evaluation scores were invited to the annual conference to
compete for the award. During session five of the conference, after heated discussion and
careful evaluation, Mr. Luping Liu (Max Planck Institute for coal research) won the first prize,
Dr. Xin He (Helmholtz-Institute Münster) and Dr. Teng Zhou (Max Planck Institute for
Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems) both won the second prize. Also there was a
poster session for exchange of scientific information. Mr. Tian Xia (Leibniz Institute for
Catalysis) was awarded as the best poster author. It is worthwhile to mention that more
than 90% of the participants were young doctoral students and post-doctors, showing a
young and energetic feature. They shared their excellent academic achievements and
valuable scientific research experience in fluent English. This revealed a positive spirit of
Chinese scholars in Germany towards their professional language, academic
accomplishment and research capacity. Thus the annual conference has proceeded in a
warm and academic atmosphere with a large amount of inspiring exchanges and discussions.

Chunhui Plan
In order to respond to the call of the ‘Ministry of Education of The People's Republic of
China’ on the promotion of the discipline construction, personnel training as well as
international cooperation and exchange, five CGCA members formed a “Chunhui Plan”
delegation and visited four different universities and research institutes in main land China
between October 26 and November 14. The members included Dr. Yucang Liang (University
of Tübingen), Dr. Kai Zheng (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg), Dr. Da
Wang (Universtiy of Münster), Dr. Wenzhong Li (Free University of Berlin) and Ms. Lin Song
(University of Cologne)
The delegation visited Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Yan’an University,
Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Guangdong University of Technology. During the
visit the team members conducted in-depth discussions with the teachers and students of
the reception universities and institutes regarding of academic research, personnel training
and introduction, as well as exchange of visits by scholars.

“Chunhui Plan” delegation in Guangdong University of Technology
The delegation was warmly welcomed by the reception organization. They visited the
research institutes and laboratory facilities, participated in academic forums organized by
the institutes, and conducted in-depth academic discussions with teachers and students.
During the visit, the delegation gave a total of more than 15 high-quality academic
presentations. The presentation and discussion on academic issues greatly aroused the
academic atmosphere of the venue and students and scholars of scientific research initiative.
In addition to the academic exchange activities, the relevant person in charge of the
reception organization also introduced the university / institute, promoted the national
talent policy and the demand for high-level innovative talents in China, and provided
direction for returning students from Germany. After the event, the delegation and the
reception organization reached a number of fruitful cooperation. During the visit, the
reception organization reported the visit through the network platform for the activities of
the delegation in real-time.
The event has been strongly supported by the Education Department of the Chinese
Embassy in Germany. The education counselor Professor Dong Qi from the department also
helped to coordinate the visit to domestic organization, so that we could truly feel the
warmth from our home country!

I: Activities of CGCA-West
1. 2017 NRW Doctors forum & 10th Annual Workshop of Chinese chemists in NRW held
in Cologne!
2017 NRW doctors’ forum & 10th annual workshop of Chinese chemists in NRW was
held successfully on 29th April at university hospital of Cologne. The theme of this annual
conference is "Chemistry Meets Biology”, more than 90 students and scholars from various
universities and research institutes in North Rhine-Westphalia attended this conference.

Mr. Dongsheng Han from Consulate-General of China in Düsseldorf and Dr. Yu-Jin Tong,
who is the president of the Chinese-German chemical association were invited to attend and
give open remark and close remark respectively. Ms. Song Lin, the president of CGCA-west
and Chair of the organizing Committee, on behalf of the organizing committee addressed a
brief welcoming, following with Professor Galla, the director of the Institute of Biochemistry
at Muenster University, Dr. Xiangru Xu, Project Leader of the Max Planck Institute for Aging

Biology and Dr. Xiangchao Gan, Project Leader of Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding,
were invited give talks on topics of drug tolerance transformation, biological, chemical,
brain aging, mass spectrometry. In addition, Dr. Lei Liu from Mainz Polymer Research
Institute, Dr. Yuanyuan Liu from Düsseldorf University Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, Dr.
Dongjing Liu from Leibniz Catalysis Institute of Rostock, Dr. Xinxin Du from Faculty of
Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Cologne, Dr. Guang Yang from the department of
nephrology of University of Düsseldorf, Mr. Wenping Lv from Jülich research center, those
outstanding young scholars also reported the progress of their research project. After the
academic reports, Dr. Xu Weiguo and Ms. Huiying Tang shared their experience with
participators.
2. Nanopolis Suzhou Co., Ltd (NANO polis) become a partner of Chinese-German
Chemical Association (CGCA)
On 21st June, the Chinese German Chemical Association signed a strategic cooperation
with Suzhou Nano polis Suzhou Co., Ltd in Dortmund and held a nano-tech workshop. The
aim of the agreement is to promote the Chinese talent in Germany cooperate with NANO
polis. This workshop attracts around 30 talents from Berlin, Aachen, Jülich, Dortmund,
Munster and Cologne; Ms. Lin Song chaired the workshop and ceremony.

Dr. Zhujun Wang, from the Fritz Haber Institute in Berlin and Dr. Chang Jiang You from
the University of Osnabruck's Center presented their latest research project in field of
nanotechnology.
Dr. Yujin Tong, the chairman of the Chinese Germany Chemical Association introduced
the CGCA and Mr. Feng Zhang, vice chairman of Nanopolis Suzhou Co., Ltd introduced the
nanotechnology industry in Suzhou Industrial Park; he also sent an invitation to the excellent
students and scholars in Germany.
II: Activities of CGCA-South
The 2017 CGCA-South Workshop was held successfully on October 21th at University of
Würzburg. It was hosted by South Germany branch of CGCA, and co-organized by the
Educational Department of the Chinese Embassy in Germany. The forum attracted 40
registered participants from Würzburg, Erlangen, Nürnberg, Köln, Tübingen, Augsburg,
Stuttgart, München, and so on. Nine excellent academic talks and several posters were
presented in the forum.

Dr. Rongchao Pan, executive vice Chairman of CGCA, delivered a welcome speech on
behalf of the association at the opening ceremony, following with Mr. Li Li (Chairman of
G.C.I), was invited to present the operating experience in the professional association and
the personnel policy in Jiangsu province. Moreover, Dr. Yanze Ren was invited to introduce
the developing process, organizational structure of CGCA and briefly reviewed the activities
in the past 29 years.
Dr. Xiaoyan Cao and Dr. Yujin Tong, the organizing committee of the CGCA-South
Workshop, hosted the academic report. Eight outstanding scientific researchers presented 8
excellent reports. Dr. Mingjian Wu from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Dr. Wenlan
Liu from the University of Stuttgart, Dr. Xiangqing Jia from the University of Würzburg was
invited to present their scientific research. This workshop covered biochemistry, theoretical
chemistry, material science, new energy, medical science and many other related fields. In
the open discussion session, the participants introduced their own research fields and had a
fruitful discussion. The forum ended at 17:00 and it provided a platform for us to
communicate and laid the foundation for further cooperation. Moreover, people also got
the chance to know each other in a free discussion session.
III: Activities of CGCA-Berlin & Brandenburg
On 23rd April, the CGCA Berlin-Brandenburg (CGCA-BB) spring workshop organized by
CGCA-BB was held successfully. This workshop has attracted more than 20 registered
participants studying or working in Universities and institutes in Berlin and Brandenburg
region. Dr. Yujin Tong, the chairman of CGCA also attended this workshop. Ms. Xianying Han
and Mr. Yupeng Zhou, the organizing committee of the workshop, hosted the academic
reports. Four excellent young researchers who are Dr. Zhenbo Mo (TU Berlin), Dr. Yu Wang
(HU Berlin), Dr. Zechao Yang (Fritz Haber Institute) and Dr. Yi Pan (Paul Drude Institute) give
their talk in theoretical chemistry, material chemistry , computing chemistry and some other
related fields. Then, the participants had a further discussion on the related fields.

The CGCA-BB autumn workshop was held on 25th November with about 20 registered
participants. Mr. Shuhao Zhang and Mr. Huan Wang hosted the academic reports. There are
five invited researchers giving wonderful talks for this workshop, who are Dr. Zongfang Wu
(Fritz Haber Institute), Dr. Chaoyong Zou (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces), Dr.
Lei Han (FU Berlin), Ms. Xiaolin Dai (Fraunhofer IAP) and Mr. Yupeng Zhou (TU Berlin). These
talks are related to material chemistry, biochemistry, polymer science, electrochemistry and
metal organic chemistry. And the participants have communicated with the speakers about
their questions and suggestions.
