Boston has seen a huge growth in Chinese tourists and nationals over the past decade.
• Chinese immigrants and nationals have purchased $6.6 billion in real estate in just the past 12 months.
• In 2014, 171,000 Chinese tourists traveled to Boston; that increased to nearly 280,000 in 2015.
• China sends more students to college in Boston than any other country does. Over 13,000 students came from China in 2014 alone.
• Chinese travelers spent $465 million in Massachusetts in 2012, and this is increasing each year.
• In just the past year, Chinese buyers purchased $28.6 billion in real estate. This grew by over $6 billion in just 12 months.
• About 62% of single family homes purchased by Chinese residents have an average value of $831,800.
• Over 30% of foreign exchange students in Boston are from China, compared to only 11% coming from India.
• Chinese-students pumped $9.8 billion into the U.S. in the 2014-2015 academic year.
• There are 304,040 Chinese students currently studying in the U.S.—55,447 in Boston alone.
