History of the Eucharist. Church tradition teaches how the

Euchariset began at the Last Supper. In Paul's first letter to the

Corinthians he describes a Eucharist celebrated in connection with

a common supper shared in the homes of the early Christians. The

supper included the blessing of the bread and wine, the breaking

of the bread and communion.

• Thanksgiving: The word Eucharist comes from the Greek

word for thanksgiving. The priest first gives thanks to God on

behalf of the people for all the blessings and gifts the Lord has

given. This gratitude is expressed primarily in the Preface

prayer of the Mass (the introduction to the Eucharistic Prayer

in which the priest begins with” the Lord be with you” and also

says “let us give thanks to the Lord our God’).

The Eucharistic Prayer is the chief of the priestly prayers of

the Mass. Only the ordained priest or bishop can say them,

because only he has the ordained power and authority to

consecrate bread and wine into the

Body and Blood of Christ.

Saint Rose of Lima Comforters

Is a prayer quilt ministry in the Diocese of

Corpus Christi. Their mission is to make

prayer quilts for those suffering from long-term

or chronic illness. Their second goal is to

make memory quilts for those who have lost

loved ones. Here is how you can get involved

in this rewarding ministry.

1. Request a quilt. 2. Join us. You should know how to sew, and we

will teach you how to make quilts. All supplies, including sewing machines are provided.

3. Donate - either fabric or monetary donations are accepted to buy supplies.

If you are interested in this ministry,

please contact parishioner Christine Hemond at 401-636-1412

Classes begin this Wednesday, October 15th

At 6:00pm Religious Ed Bldg.

In 1926 Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday for the whole Church with the first worldwide Mission Sunday collection

taking place in October 1927. The Mission Sunday collection is always taken on the next to last Sunday during the month of

October. That day is celebrated in all the local Churches as the feast of catholicity and universal solidarity so Christians

the world over will recognize their common responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world. The 2019 World Mission Sunday collection will take place in most parishes

the weekend of October 19 – 20
