Educated in the UK: BA Hons. degree in Psychology & Biology, Keele University, UK Post-graduate Certificate in Remedial Art, St Albans School of Art, UK Experience Pre-1982: (U.K.)Art therapy, careers and administration work. Post-1982: (S.A.) 3 years with IBM SA – introduced to the PC and computer graphics. Followed by freelance art work for a year or two and eventually a return to the formal work sector with Ince Deskset, where I was trained on Apple computer systems and software. After 10 months with Ince I trained and worked with a designer in a small print company for a few months and then spent a couple of years with the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy working on their monthly publication. I subsequently joined Standard Bank’s in-house Advertising Studio where I have been employed as a graphic designer for the last 17 years. In addition, I managed the Apple Mac computer system which eventually comprised ± 25 Mac computers plus server on the Studio network. This involved hardware and software budgeting plus day-to-day supervision and system support for 15 designers. Design experience has been broad; covering a wide range of print; from books, brochures and flyers to billboards, from training guides to exhibition stands and promotional items. I have been involved with the concept and design of material for numerous functions and events and I designed and implemented Standard Bank’s current internal staff look and feel, amongst other corporate design work. The majority of the bank’s below-the-line print design was handled in the Studio, as well as output of above-the-line ad campaigns originated by TBWA Hunt Lascaris, so I have also been involved with plenty of advertising design. 2010: Commencement of design business: “Out of the Cage”. In addition to graphic design I enjoy fine art, specialising in animal portraiture in water colours, oils, pastels and other media, most crafts, in fact anything creative. I am mad about animals; I own and show Boxer dogs and am a member of the local Boxer Club committee, producing their newsletters, schedules and other promotional material. I have had a lifelong obsession with the natural world around me and am fascinated by nature and wildlife, where I find endless inspiration for all my creative endeavours. I would love to be involved somehow with wildlife rescue and rehabilitation one day... a dream for the future! Designexperiencehasbeenbroad;coveringawiderangeofprint;frombooks,brochuresandflyerstobillboards,fromtrainingguidestoexhibitionstandsandpromotionalitems.IhavebeeninvolvedwiththeconceptanddesignofmaterialfornumerousfunctionsandeventsandIdesignedandimplementedStandardBank’scurrentinternalstafflookandfeel,amongstothercorporatedesignwork.

Themajorityofthebank’sbelow-the-lineprintdesignwashandledintheStudio,aswellasoutputofabove-the-lineadcampaignsoriginatedbyTBWAHuntLascaris,soIhavealsobeeninvolvedwithplentyofadvertisingdesign.

2010:Commencementofdesignbusiness:“OutoftheCage”.
