Choking
What is choking?
• A person chokes when an object is trapped in his or her throat. That blocks off the flow of air into lungs. When slippery, round foods: such as hot dogs, grapes, and hard candy. Hard foods: such as nuts, and thick foods: such as peanut butter, also are common causes of choking.
Causes of why people choke
• People choke when objects becomes trapped in his or her throat.
• Some people choke because they talk, laugh, and run when they are chewing.
• Other people take really big bites and that’s the greater the chance that you will choke.
• Running or talking while eating may cause you to swallow before food is well chewed.
What happens when someone is choking
• You can tell when a person is choking when he/she looks alarmed and cant talk, cough or breathe.
• They can die of suffocation in four in minutes.
• They cant talk or breathe.
• They get unconscious.
What to do when someone is choking
• Activate emergency medical services as soon as possible open mouth and perform finger sweep.
• If victim cant speak or breathe perform the abdominal thrust.
• Open airway (head tit chin lift) and attempt to rescue breathing.
• If unsuccessful perform abdominal thrust op to 5 times.
Ways prevent choking
• Take small bites
• Sit down to eat. Running or eating may cause you to swallow before food is well chewed.
• Avoid eating in car.
• Chew each bite well.
