Step 1. Identify the liquids that need absorbing

Identify the liquids in your facility, then choose an absorbent mat that’s compatible. Universal mats absorb oils, coolants, solvents and water; HAZ-MAT absorbent mats are ideal for chemical and unknown liquid spills; and Oil-Only mats will absorb oil but repel water.

Step 2. Determine the required wear resistance.

Consider the traffic in the area where the absorbent mat will be used. Areas with occasional or heavy foot traffic will need an absorbent mat with either medium or high wear resistance. For areas with constant forklift and cart traffic, an absorbent mat that’s heat-fused and has super wear resistance is the best choice.

Step 3. Estimate how much liquid needs absorbing.

The volume of liquid that needs absorbing will determine the weight of absorbent mat you need. Light weight absorbent mats absorb small volume spills; Medium weight mats are ideal for leaving in place to catch overspray and machine leaks; and Heavy weight mats clean up large volume spills and can be left in place for extended periods. For even more absorbency, a mat with super absorbency is the ideal solution.
