- 1. Empire magazine is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Consumer Media. It is the biggest selling film magazine in the United Kingdom and is also published in the United States, Australia, Turkey, Russia, and Portugal. This is significant as the magazine has high brand image from being distributed in many areas of the world, it is likely for my film to gain a mass audience as the magazine would already be available to an awaiting mass audience who already consume this mag. Empire organises the annual Empire Awards which were sponsored by Sony Ericsson and from 2009 sponsored by Jameson. The awards are voted for by readers of the magazine which additionally encourages more audience interaction with the mag.
- 2. I decided to use Empires brand for my magazine front cover as I admired the way in which their creative use of stylistic features are able to appeal and promote the film at focus of the magazine. Empire also dominates the magazine film industry having "20 years of being the worlds best magazine" and recently been awarded the "biggest film magazine in the world . Empire is populist in both approach and coverage. It reviews both mainstream films and art films, but feature articles concentrate on the former.
- 3. Looking through more of their previous issues on their site I found that the film magazine institution 'Empire' does not generally produce front covers which promote modern horror films. This suggests to me there is a small gap in their market. I thought this was a great opportunity as it would benefit Empire by potentially increasing their audience range.
