2019 Quarter Three Newsletter

Throughout the fall semester the students from

our ASCE Student Chapter have been working

hard in all of their classes, internships, and

with their extra-curricular and professional

activities. This is our third quarter newsletter

for the 2019 calendar year used to update

parents, alumni, and friends on what our

chapter is working on to better ourselves and

the community through our involvement with

ASCE.

2020 Deep South

Conference Preparation Our Student chapter is excited and has already

been working tirelessly to prepare for the 2020

Deep South Conference which will be held on

April 2nd - 4th and hosted by Jackson State

University in Jackson, MS. Our chapter will be

led by our Chapter President Luis Camarillo,

Concrete Canoe Captain Sarah Swain and our

Steel Bridge Captains Grettio Rivas, Sarah Fong,

and Amanda Dutra. We are extremely excited to

see what our chapter can accomplish this year at

conference!

TN Engineers Conference and

West TN Branch Kickoff

Several of our students and faculty members

attended the West TN Branch kickoff dinner

meeting, held at the University of Memphis, as

well as the TN Section meeting in Franklin, TN.

At both of these events, our Chapter President

Luis Camarillo presented to audiences of several

hundred civil engineering professionals on the

state of our student chapter. We also recognize

our very own Professor McGinnis, P.E. for his

service as President for the past year of the West

TN Branch of ASCE. He currently serves in the

role of Past President of the West TN Branch.

Recruiting and

Alumni Outreach

Over Fall Break, Dr. Assadollahi and civil

engineering students Ricardo Velasquez (c/o

2021) and Rosa Santana Ponce (c/o 2022) made

a trip to St. Louis, MO to visit Christian Brothers

College High School (CBCHS) for an

engineering recruiting trip. CBCHS graciously

hosted our representatives and we were able to

reach out to over 80 of their students on October

15th and 16th. On Monday October 14th, our

faculty and students had the opportunity to

connect with CBU Civil Engineering alumnus

Lee Cannon, PE, PTOE who is a professional

engineer and Principal at CBB Transportation

Engineering and Planners. Mr. Cannon

graduated from CBU in Civil Engineering in 1992.

Special Thanks

Our chapter would like to give special thanks to

Mr. Richard Gadomski, P.E.! Mr. Gadomski

graduated from CBU (CBC at the time) in 1962

with his BS in Engineering Chemistry. Mr.

Gadomski has made several large donations in

the forms of both his time and resources to the

School of Engineering over the decades. In fact,

our School of Engineering was recently named

the Gadomski School of Engineering. Our

ASCE Student Chapter as well as hundreds of

other students have benefited from his

generosity. CBU along with the ASCE Student

Chapter is very grateful to have such a supportive

professional. Thank you, Mr. Gadomski!

Featured Alumni

This quarter, our featured alumnus is Mr. Robert

Tworek, E.I. Mr. Tworek graduated from CBU

in Civil Engineering in May 2018 and is currently

working as a Transportation Engineer at Kimley-

Horn. Mr. Tworek has made both resource

donations and time contributions to our student

chapter and our entire department. He has

supported student presentations to provide

feedback on how they can improve self-

representation as well as providing our juniors

and seniors with data they use for their senior

design projects.
