5th July - 9th July 2011

• Does God have any place in our society? • Isn’t it obvious that faith leads to fanaticism? • Hasn’t science made it completely irrelevant? • With so many options, how can we decide what is True?

How would you respond to these challenging questions? Perhaps you’re asking them yourself? Why not come and learn how to respond?

Introduction to Apologetics offers a chance to work through the key challenges to contemporary Christian faith. Following each lecture there will be plenty of time for discussion.

Topics include: • Developing a Christian Mind • Apologetic Methods • Our own worst doubts • Responding to ‘New Atheism’ • Today’s culture • Alternative worldviews on offer • The problem of evil

After leading this course in 2006, we are delighted to welcome back Jock McGregor from Rochester in Minnesota. An attendee of Jock’s 2006 Summer School wrote, ‘The course helped me understand better the culture we live in. It’s been really stimulating.’

THE DOCTRINE OF GODDON FAIRBAIRNCambridge Summer School of Theology

CSST seeks to rekindle an excitement about ‘Big Picture’ theology – the ‘height, depth and breadth,’ of the Christian view of reality laid out through the pages of scripture.

Christians understand that doctrine in general is important, and especially that the doctrine of God is important. But we often fail to grasp the connection between the doctrine of God and the details of Christian life. How do our beliefs about God affect the way we live as Christians?

Don Fairbairn, author of Life in the Trinity (IVP, 2009), is convinced that all aspects of Christian life revolve around and flow out of the character of God as exhibited in the eternal relationship between the Father and the Son. This course probes God’s character from the whole of Scripture and examines the relationships between the persons of the Trinity on the basis of Jesus’ statements to his disciples in the Upper Room Discourse (John 13-16) and High Priestly Prayer (John 17). The course supplements these key Scriptures with insights from great thinkers in Christian history, especially from the early Church and the Reformation.

The course also looks at God’s actions of creation and redemption to elucidate further the connection between God’s character and human life. Throughout the course, the unifying theme is that God created and redeemed us to share in the fellowship that has eternally existed between the persons of the Trinity.

CSST is a theology course designed for those who would like to deepen their understanding of the central beliefs of Christianity. The course is not for specialists or theologians, but the content will be academic in nature and will assume a basic understanding of and grounding in the faith.

‘The quality of teaching and content makes me want to come back to anything that Christian Heritage puts on’

‘Mind and heart fed and expanded’ ‘The best

residential course I have ever attended’

‘The course gave me more gratitude for what God has done for me and made me start thinking more deeply

about what I actually believe’ DON FAIRBAIRN 2005

absolutely first class!’ JOCK MCGREGOR 2006 WWW.CHRISTIANHERITAGE.ORG.UK/COURSES
