General Policy Advertisers and advertising agencies assume liability for all content, including text, representation, and illustration of advertisements printed, and also for any claims originating therefrom made against the publisher. The publisher reserves the right to reject any advertising or to request changes. Any deliberate attempt to simulate the publication’s format is not permitted, and the publisher reserves the right to place the word “advertisement” with copy which, in the publisher’s opinion, resembles editorial matter. Publisher is not bound by conditions appearing on insertion orders or copy instructions not in accord with rate card.

Short Rates & Rebates Advertisers will be short rated if within a 12 month period from the date of the first insertion they do not use the amount of space on which billing was based.

Advertisers will be rebated if within a 12 month period from the date of the first insertion they have earned a higher frequency than was originally billed.

Deadlines Space and material must be received no later than the 20th of the second month preceding issue date.

Cancellations will not be accepted after the closing date and will not be considered executed unless acknowledged in writing by the publisher.

All cancellations must be in writing.Contact the Ad Department at 972.484.4728 for material deadline extensions or questions.

Publisher reserves the right to repeat previous advertisement until new advertisement or instructions are received, if material deadline has passed.

Acceptable File Formats• All ad materials, both digital files and proofs, must conform to SWOP standards. (Information on SWOP standards can be found at www.swop.org)

• PDF/X-1a is the only acceptable file format for all ROB ad units -- both full page and fractional units. • PDF files other than PDF/X-1a will only be accepted if they are high resolution and pass our stringent preflighting tests. • PDF files must be CMYK composite, professionally created either with Acrobat Distiller or in QuarkXpress or in InDesign, as a PDF V1.3 ONLY, with high resolution images and all fonts embedded. Do not use RGB, JPEG, or nested EPS files.

Unacceptable File FormatsOther file types, such as PDF created on desktop with PDF Writer, TIFF/IT-P1, Postscript or native application files such as Quark, InDesign, PageMaker, Illustrator, Freehand, Photoshop, etc., are unacceptable. Their un-locked format introduces countless opportunities for error.

File Preparation• Keep all art elements and type NOT INTENDED TO BLEED 1/4” in from trim on all four sides. For bleed ads, 1/8” excess image must be provided on all four sides. (See ad unit size requirements)• All files (and proofs) must include crop marks to inSight Magazine’s trim and bleed dimensions,

as well as center marks. These crop marks must be placed 1/4” (12 pt. offset) outside trim, i.e., outside the bleed area.• In creating your PDF file, set media/ paper size to 1” larger than inSight Magazine’s trimsize (for both width and height). Put simply, the PDF page size, when verified through the file properties in Acrobat, should be one inch larger than trim for height and width. Files that are supplied with a page size larger than specified above will incur a $50 production charge.• Right reading, portrait mode, 100%, size, no rotations.• For reverse lettering and fine or small type, we recommend that you use only one color. If more than one color is used, type can be no smaller than 6 pt.

Proofs• Contract Direct Digital Color Proofs with color bars, calibrated to SWOP specifications and output from final digital file at 100% are required to verify content and integrity of supplied ad files.• All proofs MUST have SWOP-certified color bars, which can be downloaded, free of charge, at www.swop.org., downloads. These color bars are imperative for quality control and consist of

a 6mm 5%, 25%, 50%, 100% C,M,Y,K patch strip.• For positioning purposes, inSight Magazine’s crop marks must be indicated on all proofs. Otherwise, ads will be centered at inSight’s Magazine’s discretion.• Ideally, the proof supplied will be correct for color, content and crop. However, if text changes have been made that are not reflected in the supplied contract proof, a laser, marked “For Content Only,” must also be supplied, with the contract color proof labeled “For Color Only.”• Proofs should be shipped flat with protective cardboard packaging. Do not fold or roll proofs, as they will inevitably crack in transit.

inSight Magazine’s Color Guarantee inSight Magazine strongly urges advertisers to adhere strictly to our specifications for both file and proof preparation. If you supply SWOP-compliant materials, consistent with inSight Magazine’s specific requirements, we can guarantee a color match to your supplied proof on press. If, however, our requirements our not met, inSight Magazine cannot guarantee satisfactory color reproduction.

(Examples of non-complaint materials include the following: files supplied with image resolutions below 300dpi; supplied proofs NOT made from the supplied file; 4/C type that is smaller than 6 pt.; files and/ or SWOP-certified proofs without SWOP certified color bars; files and/or proofs without crop marks, etc.)

inSight Magazine’s tight production schedule doesn’t allow adequate time to alert advertisers to the non-compliance of their materials.

However, with advance notice, we would be happy to recommend vendors who can create SWOP certified materials at extremely reasonable rates.

Extra Charges A charge of $25 will be added to the invoice if there is no B&W or color proof supplied with the ad. All shipping and printing costs are the responsibility of the advertiser.

Samples of all inserts must be sent two months prior to issue date for approval to ensure it will meet production specs from the printer.

If an insert or bound-in media is not provided by the ad material deadline and its design incurs additional postage or printing costs, those costs will be passed on to the client.

Submitting Files to the FTP You must contact the Production Staff at 800-975-6445 Ext. 4 before e-mailing or placing ad files on the FTP site. To send digital files via FTP, collect all page layouts, fonts, graphics, and compress them into one stuffed file.
