Pastors Desk:

Did you know…that through your giving the church supports many ministries?

Not counting the amount of children’s programs, adult programs, the upkeep

of the church building and the salaries, your tithes and offerings provide

support for Hidden Haven Camp, (which supported 89 campers this year!)

Manhattan Christian College, Ozark Christian College and the Garnett Area

Ministerial Fellowship.

There are also a number of other ministries that are supported through and

by the church family here at First Christian Church. Eddy Bazin (Pastor in

Haiti); Missionair (Gordon Blackie); House of Bread (Jim & Gayle Durham,

Haiti); IDES (International Disaster Emergency Services); Kulpahar Orphanage

& Hospital in Kulpahar, India; Pregnancy Resource Center in Iola; Show Me

Youth Homes in Missouri and a few other ministries that are being supported

by our church family.

We are going to be spot-lighting one of these ministries each month in the

Christian Visitor. This month our spot-light is on the Garnett Area Ministerial

Fellowship. The GAMF provides funding for the local food pantry in

conjunction with ECKAN. The partnership with ECKAN provides the space

needed to house the food pantry as well as the food pantry coordinator. The

Ministerial Fellowship also provides aide with gas for doctor’s appointments,

utility assistance, and medicine assistance and provides food and various

other perishables. We also provide food and a motel room for transients.

The GAMF is also one of the founding sponsors of Garnett Area Paint

Project which, in 2013, impacted Garnett and the surrounding community by

providing painting, wheel chair ramps, rebuilt porches and various other

repairs for over 50 homes. The GAMF also provides a breakfast each year for

the teachers and staff of USD 356 on the first in-service day of the new

school year.

The GAMF is honored to do the opening prayer for the City of Garnett’s

semi-monthly city meetings. Participating Pastors also provide chaplaincy

service to the Anderson County Hospital. In case of an emergency a chaplain

is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We also provide a daily prayer

through the intercom system at the hospital (something that I have thoroughly

enjoyed doing).

The GAMF meeting rotates each month in the participating churches as well

as meeting rooms out in the community. They host special guests from time to

time like this month when we will be hosting Garnett’s newest doctor, Dr.

Janelle Jones.

The GAMF has enjoyed working together and working in the community to

help expand the Kingdom of God and to meet the needs of the people of the

community. The GAMF is just one of the ways your giving impacts the

community we live in.

In much love, Pastor Darrel

EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOOD DISTRIBUTION will be held at the North Lake

Quonset Hut Building beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23. This is a first come, first served

basis and is in partnership with the First Baptist Church of Garnett.

Light the Night is fast approaching! Friday, October 31st from 6:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m. Last year, we attracted between 1000 & 1200 people to our Light the Night with Christ Celebration!

This year Halloween falls on a Friday night which usually means an increase of people. I predict we

stay about the same due to the varsity football game in Burlington. We have a great responsibility in

our community to LIGHT THE NIGHT WITH JESUS in the midst of this rather dark holiday. This year

FCC staff asks that you keep this year exceptionally free from any DARKNESS in the trunk-er-treat

displays or in your costumes. I am excited to see who God brings to this event this year. I hope you

will join us for an outstanding time of fellowship, but also help us to make a non-verbal stand in saying

that Halloween doesn't have to be a dark place because Jesus reins above all darkness! As we grow

with this event I need people to sign up to decorate their trunk or truck bed! Please sign up soon so

we can plan well. Please also plan to eat with us! Gene and Gail Watson are going to provide a meal

for every person who wants to eat!

*Also please return the trophies from the winners of last year so I can add something to them for the

winners of this year.

Please support this event by: 1. Decorating a trunk for the trunk-er-treat portion of the event. 2.

Donate Candy! 3. Help in the kitchen to support the meal, distribute candy & serve Hot Chocolate 4.

Sit at the introduction table and give out glow in the dark cups as a symbol of Jesus to our students.

God Bless you and Thanks for your support! Chris Goetz

Mark your calendars…put on your costumes ~

LIFE CHAIN THANKS YOU The first annual Anderson County Life Chain was held

last Sunday afternoon between 2:00 ~ 3:00 pm. Twenty two participants stood

on the East side of Hwy 59 holding up their signs while they prayed for our

country and for the end of abortion. There were 5 people from FCC who

participated. I believe that we were successful in witnessing to our community

that life is a precious gift from God. We got lots of positive feedback from

motorists with their honks and waves and thumbs up! It made our hearts rejoice!

Thank you for your prayers and may you prayerfully consider joining us next

year as we stand for LIFE! Mary Hamilton

THANK YOU FROM THE PASTORING COMMITTEE Thank you to everyone who

helped make such a wonderful weekend at the North Lake. Even though it

started cold and windy the fellowship, cookout, seeing everyone there and the

Worship service by Gary Benjamin had a heartwarming effect. The talent show

was fun and it was great seeing so many children eager to participate. We

certainly have a talented, gifted and generous church family. Ron Jenkins

Chairman of the Pastoring Committee

PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH

On behalf of the Pastoring Committee we want to remind the

congregation that October is Pastor Appreciation Month. This is

a good opportunity to let our Pastors and their wives know how

much we appreciate them; Darrel and Michal, Chris & Natasha

and Gary & Linda (retired?). They do give so much in serving

the Lord (and us) here at FCC. We are blessed and we thank

God for each of them. Ron & Darlene Jenkins

CRAFTERS RAFFLING QUILT Have you seen the latest quilt being offered for

raffle made by our own Christian Crafters? It is filled with spring flowers and is

on display at the church. Tickets can be purchased by contacting a Crafters'

member, thru the church office or from Marilyn (448-3452 or 448-6449). They

are $1.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5.00. The quilt measures 63 by 39 inches.

We'll have the drawing at the Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 19th. You need NOT be

present to win. Proceeds will go to the building fund.

OUT OF THE OFFICE…The Church Secretary will be out of the office the week

of October 20th thru October 23

rd. Please note that the “Christian Visitor” and the

“Prayer Warrior” will not be printed that week. The church office will remain

open in the mornings from 8am to 12:00 pm. In case of emergency please
