What is bone marrow transplantation?the transplantation of bone marrow from a healthy donor to stimulate production ofnormal blood cells. It is used to treat diseases such as aplastic anemia, leukemia, im-mune deficiency syndromes, and acute radiation syndrome. The bone marrow is re-moved from the donor by aspiration and infused intravenously into the recipient.Transplantation is usually preceded by chemotherapy and total body irradiation ofthe recipient.
