BA NEWS NOVEMBER 2017
IN BRIEF:
Thank you for all your
donations for the Harvest
Festival. Thank you to Mrs
Hayward for delivering all
the items to the Lord’s
Larder in Yeovil…
Please can we respectfully
remind everyone to use
the paths around the
school as the grassy area
is becoming very muddy.
Thank you...
Next Monday will be the
last KS2 multi skills club.
Sadly Premier Sports
have decided to cancel it
due to lack of interest.
There are no plans to put
on anything else at this
time…
Congratulations to our
football team who have
made it through to the
second round of the Da-
vison Cup...

Spirituality day—Sarah and Abraham
On Monday 20th November, we held our Autumn spirituality day in which we focussed on journeys and transformation. We looked at the story of Abraham and Sarah and explored the themes and concepts through a variety of activities. The
children shared their learning in a whole school assembly at the end of the day.
Some activities across the school: Year 6 exploring journeys through drama and dance; Year 1/2 debating
what they would pack in a suitcase; Year 3/4 exploring constellations; Reception and Year 1 thinking about
stars and how they are unique and special; Year 4/5 designing and making tents for their journey. More
photos on the reverse of the newsletter and more to follow on our website...

INSET DAYS: 2nd Jan 2018; Friday 29th June 2018; Wednesday 25th July 2018.
SCHOOL CLOSURE IN THE EVENT OF ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
The decision to close the school is never taken lightly. We do try very hard to keep the school open at all
times, but some of our staff have to travel quite some distance to school and if they cannot make it, it is
not always possible to open and run the school safely and within the law. Senior staff are almost certainly
required as they have knowledge of health and safety, medical and safeguarding procedures. Sometimes,
it is necessary to wait until it is light to make an informed judgement but we do try to make a decision as
early as feasibly possible.
If the school has to close, you will be sent a text message as soon as possible. Please do not ring the
school as there may be no one on site. You can also check the school website:
www.bradfordabbasprimary.co.uk or visit: http://mapping.dorsetforyou.com/closedservices It will also be
posted on Facebook. It is really important that we have up to date contact details for you so if you are
lucky enough to have a new mobile for Christmas, please let the office have the number as soon as pos-
sible.

You raised: £101.80. Thank you for your generosity.
Remembrance day
KS2 walked up to the war memorial in the village and took part in the two minutes silence remembering
all those men and women who were killed during the two World Wars and other conflicts. At one time the
day was known as Armistice Day and was renamed Remembrance Day after the Second World War. I
will let you know how much we raised when we get confirmation.

KS1 Nativity
This year, we decided to go back to having one evening and one
afternoon performance as we have done in years gone by. Last year,
the children were exhausted doing two nights and many were ill and
couldn’t attend in the evening. Having one afternoon makes it a more
enjoyable experience for them. Most schools do performances during
the day only (for this reason) and some even charge parents for tickets.
Thank you for your understanding in school requesting that pre-school
children come to the dress rehearsal—KS1 children have been working
very hard to line their lines and it is a real shame if we can’t hear them
during the performances.
Every family will have two tickets for the evening performance (due to
the capacity of the hall) —there will be no spares however we do have
spares for the Thursday afternoon.
Spirituality day continued…
Year 1 and 2 explore the theme of trust through
being blindfolded; Year 3 and 4 explore the prob-
lems that Sarah and Abraham may have encoun-
tered in their journey; Year 6 write Psalms and
Year 5/6 write prayers.
