Services
A priest will be available in St Georges Chapel on Friday 20 December between 1pm and 3pm
for Spiritual Conversation and Confession.
Confessions at other times before Christmas are available

Today the Cathedral celebrates the Feast of St Nicholas with a Choral Eucharist sung by
the combined Cathedral Choirs of Newcastle and Durham. Music for the service includes
Apolytikion of Our Holy Father Nicholas of Myra by John Tavener.

1800 A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
Come and hear the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth
of Jesus being told through nine lessons interspersed with the Cathedral Choir singing
traditional and modern carols. The service includes familar carols for everyone to sing.
2330 Midnight Mass
The service begins with the Blessing of the Crib after which we listen again to the angels
song of Gods glory, and of his peace and goodwill to all peoples, revealed in the birth of
Jesus. Music to include Sussex Carol arr. David Willcocks.
Christmas Day Wednesday 25 December
1000 Festal Eucharist for Christmas Day
Come and give thanks with the Bishop of Newcastle for Gods gift of his Son. Music to include
Missa Sancti Nicolai by Joseph Haydn.
Epiphany 19 January
1800 Epiphany Carol Service
Epiphany celebrates the appearance of Gods glory in the world through the birth of Jesus,
our Emmanuel (God with us), and the revelation of the incarnation to the Gentiles and the
whole world. Christ calls us out of darkness and into light, so that we may recognise his effecton all creation. In this service, we pray that our eyes may be opened to see his glory; for all are
made in the image and likeness of God. Music to include The Three Kings by Cornelius.
A perfect way to prepare for Christmas Day itself as children hear the story of Christmas unfold,
with familiar traditional carols for everyone to sing.

Mad Alice Theatre Company presents a story-telling show for Christmas. Sitting on a yule log,
as if around a gently crackling, winter fire, the actors tell seasonal stories interspersed with
songs and poems.

A joint venture between Methodists, Roman Catholics, Anglicans and the Salvation Army.
Haway in a Manger is a contemporary nativity set in the heart of the city, tackling hard-hitting
issues relevant to the city in 2013.
