H0LIDAY LUMINARIES Save your gallon size milk and water jugs to put out in front of your units on Christmas Eve. It takes 1 -3 jugs for each unit. We need donations of votive size candles (not tea size). The tea size candles are too small and don't burn long. Any votive candles you can donate would be greatly appreciated . Drop off candles or pick up milk jugs at Rainy Dula's at 28-7th St. or Anita Cook's at 22-J Street. For instructions on how to prepare your jugs call Rainy Dula at 941-792-3352 or Anita Cook at 616-304-6997. At 6 PM on Christmas Eve put your luminaries out, light your candles, and enjoy the view! HISTORY OF LUMINARIES Why do we light our streets on Christmas Eve? Spanish people lit bonfires along the roads to guide people to Midnight Mass to re-enact the story of Mary and Joseph's quest for lodging in Bethlehem. In the 19th century along the Santa Fe Trail to Old Town in Albuquerque, NM western settlers lit their entranceways on Christmas Eve with decorative Chinese paper lanterns. The word luminaries (also called farolitos) is Spanish for "little lanterns" and originated in the 16th century.

ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE MEETINGS December meeting will be Monday, December 12. Meetings are held in the Annex at Paradise Bay at 9:30 AM. All leaders or heads of an activity, club, or organization are urged to attend. We look forward to making our park a fun place to live and play.

SHUFFLEBOARD NEWS Welcome back Paradise Bay and Sarasota Bay residents to your southern "family." The courts are ready and being used. There is a good atmosphere of fun plus learning some strategy in this club. Lessons will commence Dec. 7th and every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Monday through Saturday there are players willing to help from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Club meeting will be on Dec 14, 2016.

LADIES FRIENDSHIP CLUB The first luncheon meeting of the season will be held on Dec. 14th at 12:30 PM in the Annex at the Paradise Bay Hall. Please remember to bring a dish to pass and your table service. The club makes money by having a bake sale at the park’s two bazaars and a garage sale during the park-wide sale. Please remember that ALL monies made by this group will go to charity. On Dec. 3rd the club will have a bake sale at the Craft Show. Baked goods donated by anyone will be much appreciated. Membership dues are $3.00 a year. We invite all ladies to join us for fellowship, good food, and an opportunity to help others.

Monday, December 19 is “Bring your washcloth to coffee hour” day. We are once again collecting washcloths for Turning Points. The Turning Points service provides about 10,000 showers a year for homeless people and our Bradenton veterans. They are in dire need of washcloths, new or gently used. Towels and bath mats are also needed. Thanks for your generous support!

From Paradise Bay Manager, Tina Blair:

I would like to welcome everyone back and

hope everyone has a great summer. Please

be advised that the office will be closing Dec.

23 at noon and will be closed Monday, Dec. 26

for Christmas. Again on Dec. 31 the office will

be closed at noon and closed all day Jan. 2,

2017 for the New Year’s holiday.

Reminders to all:

Please keep the laundry room door closed

when using the facility and when you leave,

as we do not want outsiders using the

facilities here.

If you have a new car or a different car, please

bring in your registration and get a sticker for

your car. There are a lot of cars in our park

that do not have a Paradise Bay sticker and

need to.

If you choose to do any outside

improvements, please remember it must be

approved before starting. We have an

updated form from the county indicating what

needs a permit and what can be done without

one.

To everyone: Have a very Merry

Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Last winter I told attendees at the Sunday Evening Services that 2015/16 was my last season as coordinator. However, since Christmas Day falls on Sunday, I think it is appropriate for us to meet at 6 PM and hear the message of the Christmas Story. Hot cocoa, coffee, & tea will be served, so please feel free to bring any extra cookies you may have to share. A volunteer will be needed for piano and song leader, so that we might sing a few carols. Our service is non-denominational. All Paradise and Sarasota Bay family members and guests are welcome. If a large number of you who attend services at your local church on Sunday evening would like to get together with your PB/SB family on Christmas, I would be glad to meet earlier in the day if that would accommodate you this one time. I will also commit to organizing services during the month of January 2017, starting on Jan 8. By the end of January, I am certain a volunteer(s) will step forward to take over this fulfilling position. Greg Lynch
