*ADVENT PRAYERLeader: Good friends,

as we await the fulfillment of the promises of God,let us prepare ourselvesso that when the time is rightwe are ready to receive God’s great good news.

Let us hear, in lessons from our scriptures, how prophets foretold that God would visitand redeem the waiting people.

Let us rejoice, in our songs and our hymns, that God’s good purposes are being mightily fulfilled.

Let us celebrate the hopethat our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will bring all peoples and all thingsinto the glory of God’s eternal kingdom.

But, first, we pray for the world that God loves.

People: Gracious and loving God,on this day we pray for all who walk in darkness,in this place and everywhere, that they may be freed from all evil and fear, and may in joy be lifted up to the light of your love.

Bathe the world in your graceso that men and women togethermay hear your astounding word of hopeand become agents of your transforming love.

In this, as in all things,we give you praise for ever and ever. Amen.
