WORLDWIDE SEMINARIAN SUPPORT INC. THE CALLING CHRISTMAS 2010 CHRISTMAS LETTER FROM ALCP SUPERIOR GENERAL Dear members and supporters of Worldwide Seminarian Support, Cordial greetings from our ALCP/OSS General House. Allow me to send you Christmas greetings of our members and seminarians. Christmas is a profound mystery and experience. No one of us can exhaustively express the mystery of Christmas through our own limited human mind and words. It is a profound mystery in which we can only attempt to stammer something for our reflection. Christmas is God coming to us. God is coming to us in the form of a small child (His Son). The coming of God to mankind in the form of a small child teaches us something worth noting. A child is usually small, humble, sincere, dependent, and so on. In the course of time a child grows, becomes an adult and, if God wishes, an old person of hundred years old. This is a natural and gradual process. Here we get the impression that both childhood and being old belong together. You can not appreciate one and neglect the other. Further, in the natural world we see how a day begins: a gradual or humble rising of the sun in the morning, full daylight in the afternoon and finally the setting of the sun in the evening. All belong together. In fact the beginning of something and the completion of it belong together. They are related. In this sense we can understand the logic here that the humble coming of God to mankind in the form of a small child (Christmas), the preaching of Jesus in Jerusalem and beyond, the crucifixion of Jesus and the plan of God in our life belong together. When we celebrate and appreciate Christmas we are in fact celebrating and appreciating everything God intended in our life as Christians. Christmas is the child Jesus coming to us. It is not we going to Him. He is coming to us. What is He coming to do? He is coming, not only to reveal to us the greatness of His Father, but also to show us the way to Him. Through the child Jesus God is coming to take us to Himself. In fact there is a differ- ence between going somewhere by ourselves and being taken there by someone else. The second methodology is easier. It is difficult to know God and to believe in Him by our own human effort and mind. God is so great that we can only know and come to Him through His own divine help. My word to you all is that we should always thank God for this methodology that He sends us His Son to us so that He should take us to Himself. As human beings we always make this experience. In areas where roads, streets and houses are not well marked and identified, and the navigation system can not work, visitors must be picked up from the airport and be led to their point of destination. The host should go to pick up the visitor. Alone he may not reach his point of destination. Christmas therefore is God coming to search us to our specific goal and destination, heaven.

THE CALLING

CHRISTMAS 2010

CHRISTMAS LETTER FROM ALCP SUPERIOR GENERAL

Dear members and supporters of Worldwide Seminarian Support,

Cordial greetings from our ALCP/OSS General House. Allow me to send you Christmas greetings of our

members and seminarians.

Christmas is a profound mystery and experience. No one of us can exhaustively express the mystery

of Christmas through our own limited human mind and words. It is a profound mystery in which we can

only attempt to stammer something for our reflection.

Christmas is God coming to us. God is coming to us in the form of a small child (His Son). The coming

of God to mankind in the form of a small child teaches us something worth noting. A child is usually

small, humble, sincere, dependent, and so on. In the course of time a child grows, becomes an adult

and, if God wishes, an old person of hundred years old. This is a natural and gradual process. Here we

get the impression that both childhood and being old belong together. You can not appreciate one and

neglect the other. Further, in the natural world we see how a day begins: a gradual or humble rising of

the sun in the morning, full daylight in the afternoon and finally the setting of the sun in the evening.

All belong together. In fact the beginning of something and the completion of it belong together. They

are related. In this sense we can understand the logic here that the humble coming of God to mankind

in the form of a small child (Christmas), the preaching of Jesus in Jerusalem and beyond, the crucifixion

of Jesus and the plan of God in our life belong together. When we celebrate and appreciate Christmas

we are in fact celebrating and appreciating everything God intended in our life as Christians.

Christmas is the child Jesus coming to us. It is not we going to Him. He is coming to us. What is He

coming to do? He is coming, not only to reveal to us the greatness of His Father, but also to show us

the way to Him. Through the child Jesus God is coming to take us to Himself. In fact there is a differ-

ence between going somewhere by ourselves and being taken there by someone else. The second

methodology is easier. It is difficult to know God and to believe in Him by our own human effort and

mind. God is so great that we can only know and come to Him through His own divine help. My word

to you all is that we should always thank God for this methodology that He sends us His Son to us so

that He should take us to Himself.

As human beings we always make this experience. In areas where roads, streets and houses are not

well marked and identified, and the navigation system can not work, visitors must be picked up from

the airport and be led to their point of destination. The host should go to pick up the visitor. Alone he

may not reach his point of destination. Christmas therefore is God coming to search us to our specific

goal and destination, heaven.

Fr. Israel letter continued…

The child Jesus brings light in our life and into our journey towards heaven. Therefore, he is not only

the way but the light on our journey, light on our path. The light of the child Jesus helps us to see the

true destination of our Christian journey. That is also the reason why our Christian way to heaven is

different from the journey of a tourist. A tourist does not necessarily have a specific goal. A tourist is

after wonderful and interesting encounters.

It is normal for a tourist to change his goals several times on the same trip provided there is some-

thing more wonderful and interesting. Christmas is therefore a call to Christians that they are not sim-

ply tourists in the world but people with a specific destination. The

specific Christian point of destination is one, heaven.

Without Jesus we can do nothing. On our path to God we need His

light. Seeing presupposes light. We need the light of the sun to be

able to see, just like the moon needs the light of the sun to be seen.

Through the light of the child Jesus we will be able to see the true

way to God. Accepting the child Jesus in our life we will turn out to be

what God meant for our life.

Christmas shines more than the sun. To accept Jesus is to accept His

light. If we accept the light of the child Jesus we will become also light

for others. With certainty may I say that the apostolate of the mem-

bers and supporters of Worldwide Seminarian Support is also a Christmas light for many people, espe-

cially for our seminarians. We thank God for what you are and for your wonderful mission.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2011,

Rev. Dr. Joseph Israel Superior General, Apostolic Life Community of Priests, OSS

UPCOMING 2011 ORDINATIONS

NEWLY ORDAINED PRIEST

Thanks to your faithful support, by the grace of God, Fr. Felix Kiko was just recently ordained to the

holy priesthood! We are very happy and blessed to announce that only by your faithful support was

this made possible. Fr. Felix extends his most sincere thanks for your financial support of his education

to the priesthood.

WSS NEWS

We were blessed with a wonderful board meeting during the week of

the 24th in May. Our week of fun, unity, and recharging in the Spirit

included many events such as a tour of the University of Saint Francis

where we held our conferences, a Knights of Columbus First Degree for

the visiting priests, a benefactor appreciation barbeque, a tour of the

city of Fort Wayne and Rome City Indiana, a blessing of the Mary statue

donated by Worldwide Seminarian Support benefactor, and lastly a

wonderful performance fundraiser by theatrical extraordinaire Kevin Flinn from West Palm Beach in his

dramatic one man show "St. John in Exile".

At all of these events we had great attendance and support

from our local donors. A big thank you to all benefactors that

showed up in support, and made this great week possible. At

all of these events funds were raised in support of our semi-

narians! Thank you again for all of the generous donations.

By the fruits of our efforts Fr. Gabriel is a priest coming from

Tanzania, from the Apostolic Life Community of Priests, to

serve in the Fort Wayne South Bend Diocese. We are so happy

he was just recently placed in St. Mary's parish in Decatur IN.

It is such a blessing to have him in the area!

Tuition is coming due for the next academic year at the seminary. Please continue to give graciously in

support of our future priests. We need every faithful Catholic's help so we can raise the $20,000 that is

desperately needed.

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM WSS PRESIDENT

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will

go for us? Here I am; I said; “send me!” Isaiah 6:8

There are hundreds of Catholic men in Africa and India, answering this

call from our Lord Jesus Christ. As the result of our humble efforts, to-

gether we have provided 39 funded seminarians through to Catholic

Priesthood! The best Christmas gift is to know that they are celebrating

the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, consecrating the Body and Blood of Christ

on the altar of GOD to be received by all the faithful!

You did not choose me. I chose you and sent you out to produce fruit, the

kind of fruit that will last. John 15:16

Consider for a moment that you, too, have been chosen—and you have answered the call by being

part of Worldwide Seminarian Support. While it’s a privilege to put our faith into action, it’s also a gift

that you have ALCP seminarians and Priests praying for you and your intentions every day. What a

treasure it is to reflect on the sacraments be-

ing received by thousands as a direct result of

your sacrificial offering.

Baptism…Reconciliation…Eucharist…

Confirmation…Matrimony…Holy Orders…

Anointing of the Sick.

We are part of the sacramental life of the Universal

Church by funding these ALCP, and diocesan seminarians

through Worldwide Seminarian Support. We ask that

you prayerfully consider sending in your year end tax

deductible contribution to WSS to help fund seminarian

tuition due in January.

We wish you a Blessed Christmas and a Holy New Year!
