Christmas New Orleans Style

Originally named “A Creole Christmas” and later “A New Orleans Christmas,” Christmas New Orleans Style was

established in December 1985 to promote tourism to New Orleans during the holiday season – traditionally a slower

time for travel and tourism to the City. The first programs began with tree decorating at the New Orleans Police Station

on Royal Street and a performance by the Mardi Gras Chorus on the steps of the Wildlife & Fisheries building.

Over the past 28 years, Christmas New Orleans Style has become a successful holiday program featuring a multitude of

holiday events around the city. Holiday events include cooking demonstrations at the Market Fare Stage in the French

Market, holiday concerts at St. Louis Cathedral and St. Augustine Church, Papa Noël discounts from over 50 hotels and

Bed and Breakfast, and Reveillon menus from 47 of New Orleans’ finest restaurants. Visitors can also partake in local,

festive events including holiday home tours and Living History Characters in the French Quarter.

In 2011, readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine voted New Orleans the number one favorite city to visit during the fall,

Christmas, and New Year’s season in the annual “America’s Favorite Cities” survey. New Orleans also ranked in the top

three subcategories of travel such as: Best Cafés, Best Fine Dining Restaurants, and Several Hotel Options.
