Christmas/New Years Edition
JOIN THE CHRISTMAS CELBRATIONS:
It’s been a year of fun-filled fitness in our Group Fitness
classes! So to thank you for all your hard work and
dedication, we want to celebrate with MeGa-Mix
Christmas Party Class, just for you!
Join us Saturday 10th December for our Christmas Party
class featuring all the best tracks of 2016!!
The winner of the ‘12 days of fitness’ challenge will also
be drawn on this day!
Crèche Corner
We have been having some fantastic fun in the creche over
the past few weeks starting with October school holidays.
We looked at healthy eating with the story of “The Hungry
Caterpillar”.
We also focused on healthy cooking where
the kids opted to cook up a storm making
their own pizzas and delicious honey and
banana smoothies.
In the afternoon creche sessions we have
been making craft paper flowers which the kids have then
taken home.
Halloween was a GREAT hit with kids
coming in dressed up for a fun-filled
morning making bat shaped fairy bread &
spider web popcorn. We look forward to
Nov/Dec as some great craft ideas for all
kids who visit us.
Finally just a few reminders:
Please remember to bring a water bottle, nappies &
nut-free snacks when dropping your child at creche.
It would also be great if you could leave your child’s
pram with us, for when they need a nap or quiet time.
Thank you
TALENTED PILBARA ATHLETES LEARN FROM THE BEST:
DIVE IN MOVIES MAKING A SPLASH!
Well the day started beautifully for our September Dive in Movie, nice balmy
high twenties sort of Autumn weather. But then the sun set and by the looks of
the lifeguards in their big jackets we should have been watching Ice Age.
Instead Zootopia was on and we still had a great turn out of people rugged up
on the grass and even some crazy kids swimming! Even with the cooler
conditions, it was a great family fun night that was enjoyed by all.
Our next upcoming Dive in Movie will be in December and with the weather
warming up it will be perfect conditions to come on down, cook some dinner on
the barbies & relax poolside with a great Christmas movie for the whole family!!
Karratha Leisureplex was selected to host the first ‘PILBARA SPORTS ACADEMY’ Regional Workshop …
Talented athletes and coaches from across the Pilbara learnt from international and local sports specialists at the first Pilbara Sports Academy
Regional Workshop held on 12th November.
The Academy has been established to support the development of locally identified talented athletes and coaches in their quest to participate
at national or international level competition.
The workshop’s keynote speaker was internationally-renowned sports psychologist Brain Millar, who discussed the challenges facing talented
athletes. Brian has worked with elite coaches and athletes for 30 years including more than 125 Olympic Australian and English medalists.
The workshop also included health and wellbeing presentations from:
International specialist sports physician Dr Roslyn Carbon
Local and internationally-ranked taekwondo athlete Tahlia Briggs
Nutritionist April Butt
Physiotherapist Brendan Aitkens.
The Academy is part of a state-wide talent development network established by the Department of Sport and Recreation with funding from
Royalties for Regions delivered in partnership with the City of Karratha.
Forty-four athletes from 10 sports were invited by their respective State Sporting Associations to attend and by all accounts it was very well
received and deemed a successful event, giving athletes an abundance of knowledge to develop within their chosen sport.
Acknowledgments must be made to not only the workshop presenters but also Brendan Cullinan, DSR and Ben Unbehaun, KLP Programs Duty
Manager for orchestrating such a successful event
“BRIAN captivated all with his
wealth of knowledge & experience”
“Healthy body, healthy mind Dr
Carbon explained the importance”
“An interactive cooking/nutritional
session with APRIL proved invaluable”
“Fitness testing with Brendan took
the kids through their paces”
10 foods that cause bloating and what to eat instead
Bloating is the result of gas or fluid accumulating in your GI tract, or when bacteria in your large intestine have a hard time
breaking down certain foods. The most common foods that produce digestive symptoms are high FODMAP foods.
What are FODMAPS?
In simple terms FODMAPS are group of indigestible short-chain carbohydrates, or sugar molecules.
Since your body is unable to completely digest these sugar molecules, they travel through your GI tract
and reach your colon undigested, where the bacteria that live in your colon begin to ferment them. The
fermentation can produce gas and bloating.
Read the complete article to find out what to eat instead to substitute these top 10 foods causing bloat-
ing: http://blog.paleohacks.com/foods-that-cause-bloating/#
The most common foods that cause bloating are high FODMAP foods. In addition bloating can also
result from factors such as eating too fast, eating while distracted or not chewing properly. Eliminating
foods that cause bloating from your diet is an excellent start for improving your digestive health but
chronic bloating may suggest that a deeper, underlying health issue is at work.
