    Oc to b er. The Sc ho ol Counc il ha s elec ted Freya Holme s-Moo rho use a s the Sc ho olCouncil President and the Council look forward to having a positive impact on school life at Christs.The Sc hoo l Counc il will be wo rking in three sub-group s: Integ rity, Com munity a nd Ac hieve me nt, fo-c using on d iverse a rea s suc h a s loc a l cha rity initiative s, anti-bullying a nd how p up ils lea rn in theChrists School classroom.

    The ne xt da y 6 me mb ers of the Sc hoo l Co unc il a t-tend ed the Ric hmond Sec ond ary Sc hool Counc ilCo nfe renc e a t the Houses of Pa rlia me nt. Our visitbegan at Portcullis House with a Question andAnswer session with our local MP Zac Goldsmith.

    Discussions ranged from a description of a Day inthe Life of an MP to Academies and over -fishingof our oc ea ns. After a light lunch, pup ils we re ta k-en o n a to ur of the Houses of Pa rliam en t. Sitting inthe ga lleries of t he House o f Lords a nd House o fCo mm ons ga ve p up ils a n insigh t into ho w Pa rlia-me nt op erate s. Further clarific a tion wa s provide dlater in the day with a workshop on How Laws areMade. The pupils had a fantastic day and leftb oth informe d a nd insp ired . We loo k forwa rd to

    the next edition of Christs Chronicles when weprovide you w ith a further Sc hool Counc il upda te.

    This Christmas Christs will be once again supporting the Samaritans Oper-a tion Xmas Child c amp a ign. We w ill b e send ing shoe b oxes full of C hrist-ma s go od ies to less fortunate c hild ren a round the w orld . One of the item sreq uested for the b oxes a re w oo lly hat s a nd sc a rves.

    We felt this wa s a n idea l opp ortunity to lea rn a new skill and sp rea d som eChristm a s joy a t the sa me time ! A sma ll g roup of Yea r 8 stud ent s ha vebe en g iving up two lunchtimes a we ek for this go od c ause a nd these a resom e o f the results.

    This wee kend the Yea r 10 Textiles c lass went on a trip to the Alexa nd raPa lac e Knitting a nd Stitch ing Show to g a in insp ira tion for their forthc om -ing G CSE p rojec ts. The exhibition b rings together a ll typ es of te xtile d isc i-p lines from felt ma king, e mb roide ry, knitting, c roc het to lac e ma king, silkpa inting a nd ha nd d ying.

    The students were very lucky to see a fantastic exhibition of Beryl Deansec c lesiastic a l em b roidery a s we ll a s the b rea th-ta king Ba ttle of Preston-p ans Ta p estry. Crea ted b y ove r 250 voluntee r em b roid erers from a c rossSc ot land , the t a p estry is ove r 104 met res in leng th.

    Christ's Sc hoo l have ofte n b ee n the b enc hma rk side a c ross a numb er of yea rlevels throughout the Richmond Borough over the last number of years, andthe trend has c ontinued at the b eginning of the 2011/ 12 c am pa ign. With onlytwo c omp etitions be ing held up to the half- term break, Christs have comea wa y with b oth the Yea r 11 and Yea r 10 Borough Rugb y Lea gue Trophies.

    Adm itted ly our Yea r 11 tea m w as disap po inted in the fa c t that their win ca meb y defa ult a fter our riva l Ted d ingt on ha d m isp la c ed the b us keys an d w ere una-ble to make the journey. However this did not break the spirits of the Christsb oys, who ha ve t aken out t heir first Borough Cha mp ionship a fter an a go nising lyclose defeat in last years final, and another second place the previous year.We look forwa rd to see ing t he b oys put t heir skills on show late r this te rm.

    Rugby League in Year 10 at Christs has again shown their dominance over therest o f Richm ond with t heir sec ond title in suc c essive yea rs. The b oys ma na gedto go through the co mp etition undefea ted a fter three ma tc hes without con-c ed ing a try. It w a s an othe r very imp ressive e ffort that should ho ld the m in ago od p osition for the reg iona l c arnival.

At Christs we willestab lish the imp ortanc e of the Ga mes and the lega c yfollowing the c losing c erem ony. As p up ils a t this sc hool,we will b e trying to inc rea se p articipa tion throug hout a llyea rs of the sc hoo l in c olla b oration w ith the PE d ep art-ment.

    The Readers' Theatre run after school on a Monday is a great opportunity for year 7s and 8s to de-velop their rea d ing a nd p ublic sp ea king skills. The group read sc rip ts as though d oing a ra d io pla yand we hop e, at some po int, that w e will be ab le rec ord the p lay w e ha ve b een read ing this term.

    On Tuesday, the after school activity is a Writers Forum where the students can come with any crea-tive writing ideas they have, whether its a novel, poem or a short article for a newspaper. It is an op-p ortunity for bud d ing writers a nd journa lists to t alk ab out w ha t they a re w riting a nd b e g iven som ehelp a nd e nc ourag eme nt to d evelop the ir ide as. We hop e a s the yea r go es on to arrang e for som egue st a uthors to sp ea k to the g roup .

    Thursd a y ha s the Film Boo k club tha t g oe s on fo r a little longe r after sc hoo l. Here w e w at c h a film t hathas been adapted from a famous book and then discuss how it relates to the book, whether its agood ada ptat ion or not .

    There a re a c oup le of a c tivities that are ha pp ening during lunch time as we ll, the ma in one be ing theSta ff Boo k Da y, whic h involves a sta ff mem b er rea d ing from their favo urite b oo k when t hey w ere ateenag er and talk ab out why it had an imp ac t on them.

    I a m ho p ing this is the sta rt of g ene ra ting a ne w w a ve o f young rea d ers who a re p a ssionat e a b outrea ding a nd b eing creative with words.

    With the completion of the new building work at Christs we now have a Chapel. It is on the maincorridor as soon as you come through reception. Please feel free to visit it when youre next in school.

    We were lucky to receive on permanent loan, church furnishings belonging to St Faiths Church inWand swo rth. The c hurc h has be en ma d e redund a nt.     With input from b oth stud ents a nd sta ff I ha ve b ee n grad ua lly furnishing the Cha p el and p rovidingme d itat ive exercises to h elp stud en ts to b e reflec tive or to p ra y. This wee k Yea r 8 stud ent s ha ve spen tpart of their RE lesson learning about the purpose of the Chapel, how to be in that space and toengage with some of the meditations. Well continue to introduce students to the Chapel, and hope

    that w hen they need it they will find it a c alm a nd c alming sanc tuary.The e xtension w ill b e forma lly op ene d an d b lessed , and the C ha p el de d ic a ted by the Bishop of King-ston, the Rt Rev Ric ha rd Chee tha m, on No vem b er 3 rd 2011.
