Introduction

K-5 public elementary school

Google Apps (GAFE)

avg 30 students per room

moving toward 2:1

Page 3: Chromebook Implementation: Tips & Procedures

Tip #1

Pilot

Buy a few, don’t buy dozens

See how they work within your network infrastructure

Page 4: Chromebook Implementation: Tips & Procedures

Tip #2

Know your network infrastructure

Why 2:1 for us?

our access points only support 20 devices

30 student per room plus teacher…

Tip #3

Know your goal

Chromebooks take literal minutes to deploy, are your staff & students ready to roll as soon as the devices show up?

Tip #4 (more “procedure” than tip)

Enterprise enrollment

Control-Alt-E

If you don’t do this, you wont be able to manage the devices within the GAFE Admin console

Page 7: Chromebook Implementation: Tips & Procedures

Control-Alt-EDon’t sign in. Enroll your device in the domain

first

“enterprise enrollment”Now, sign-in…

Page 9: Chromebook Implementation: Tips & Procedures

Tip #5

Consider a generic account

the first account to sign-in is the “device owner”

owner can manage device permissions

maybe it’s the classroom teacher or maybe it’s a generic account since all permission managed centrally

Tip #6“Power wash” is different than Wiping the device

Do Not Power wash!

If you Power wash you wont be able to re-enroll the device

Wipe the device to clear all data & re-enroll

wiping (entering “developer mode” varies by device https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/1360642

Tip #7

Enrolling the device adds it to the overall domain

be sure to move individual devices to appropriate sub-organizations if you are creating custom settings

changing “Chrome” settings in the Admin panel impacts all Chrome users, even those on Mac & PCs
