Saturday, September 19, 2015P.E.O. Visit Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 19. Approximately 80 P.E.O.s from multiple states are expected for this annual event! Our Golden Keys will be giving tours as well as hosting a lunch for our guests. Please help us make our visitors feel welcome on campus.

A campus open house is on the schedule for 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Please note P.E.O.s may be visiting public areas in the residence halls, including the suite common areas.

Headphone Disco is the surreal, insanely popular, and completely unforgettable silent party phenomenon that’s been rocking the world. Unfamiliar with the concept? Take a roomful of party people, give them all a set of specially made two-channel wireless headphones, and have two live DJs broadcast to them over two FM channels simultaneously. Watch as the crowd chooses their DJ with the flick of a switch, and then ‘get down’ to two completely different styles of music, at exactly the same time, to a soundtrack that only they can hear.

This Grammy-nominated, prize-winning Steinway artist ensemble—one of only a handful of duos worldwide devoted exclusively to piano duets—is blazing a bold new path for four hands groups by focusing on twentieth- and twenty-first century repertoire, and by commissioning new works from noted composers each year. ZOFO is shorthand for 20-finger orchestra (ZO=20 and FO=finger orchestra).

Donor Wall Installed

The donor wall recognizing donors from A Defining Moment: The Campaign for Cottey College has now been installed! Sidewalk work is still in progress, in addition to granite caps that will placed on top of each brick pillar and a granite shelf installed across

the bottom ledge under the granite wall; this will be completed by September 25 in time for the dedication of the Judy and Glenn Rogers Fine Arts Building. The donor wall is located between the Blanche Skiff Ross Library and Grantham Hall. On the west side of the wall, names of individual donors who made gifts of $10,000 or more to the Campaign are listed. On the east side of the wall, P.E.O. chapters who contributed $5,000 or more during the Campaign are displayed.

Spiritual Life & DiversityLast Saturday, September 5, Rev. Erica Sigauke, director of spiritual life and campus diversity, took a group of students to the Little Balkans Festival in Pittsburg, Kansas. Students had an opportunity to learn about the history of the immigrants who came to work in the mines and coal field that extended through Cherokee, Crawford, and Bourbon Counties, and the region of southeastern Europe known as the Balkans after the 1900. There were several activities including music, parades, food, and artifacts.

Employee Training

Employees will be receiving an email from Betsy McReynolds, director of human resources, regarding mandatory training in September. This will be an on-line training course through United Educators and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The training topic is the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act, which seeks to address the violence women face on college campuses nationwide. SaVE will complement the Title IX Guidance by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. This legislation also updates the Jeanne Clery Act.

Peace Week: T-Shirt & Jeans Day!

Commuter Students

Open Mic NightAs a part of Peace Week 2015, student Priscilla Barrios is organizing an OPEN MIC NIGHT on Monday, September 21, at 7:00 p.m. in Raney Dining Room.

The vision for the OPEN MIC NIGHT includes allowing students, faulty, and staff to express themselves through, but not limited to, skits, slam poetry, poetry readings, instrumentals, art and/or song. Wellness Program Zumba Classes

A certified Zumba instructor will teach Zumba classes on Mondays and Wednesdays starting on September 14, next Monday, at 5:20 p.m. in the small dance studio. Class will last for one hour. Zumba is the perfect combination of fun and fitness with 15 million people taking classes around the world. Join us on Monday to see what all the excitement is all about!

FYI- Due to Zumba being available to us, the roller class will not be offered until later in the school year.

Did you know.... ?

Have you noticed that you feel better during exercise when you’ve had some caffeine? Research reported in the June issue of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (2015; 47 [6], 1145-58) confirmed that caffeine can improve endurance exercise performance. Consuming a dose of 5 milligrams of caffeine per kilogram of body weight (about

2-3 cups of coffee, depending on your size and the type of coffee) before exercise seems to have the most benefit.
