Porsche Design is a brand whose name conveys both its origins and its philosophy. Since 1972 – the year in which the company was founded – designers at Porsche Design have followed in the footsteps of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the company’s founder and creator of the legendary Porsche 911, drawing their inspiration from the performance of Porsche in motorsports. It is not in the company’s nature to stand still. Porsche Design has always thought one step ahead of the curve, testing out possibilities and driving forward development. The desire for innovation is evident in all Porsche Design products, but it is perhaps most evident in the timepieces. Porsche Design watches are not just first-class chronometers, they are also high-precision tools and the embodiment of innovation. They represent the perfect harmony of design and function, combined with the art of Swiss watchmaking.

The Chronotimer Collection is inspired by the legendary first watch by Porsche Design and pays tribute to the brand’s origins in motorsports. The timepieces of the Chronotimer Collection are simple, timeless and sporty precision instruments. The dial’s design features contrasting elements to guarantee optimum readability. Scratchproof sapphire crystal and the titanium casing make the watches enduring and resilient companions on your journey towards new record times. Proudly presenting the Chronotimer Series 1 Porsche European Open Limited Edition 2017.

What sets good design apart from exceptional design? What is the difference between great and revolutionary? It is the ambition to face new challenges. The strive to improve. To innovate. To change the game. A sentiment that does not only apply to the world of exclusive timepiece design, but holds true for the world of golf.

Just like the greatest golfers in history, Porsche is driven by a passion for performance. Like an athlete surpassing past victories, we aim to create the extraordinary and stand out. We focus. We act with precision. The gears of movement are our tee and green. We master difficulties. We knuckle down. And we keep driving forward.

So what could be closer to our heart than to create an iconic masterpiece that fuses the exclusivity of Porsche Design with the fascination of golf? An extraordinary collaboration for an extraordinary occasion: the PORSCHE EUROPEAN OPEN.

THE COLLABORATION

The European Open has always been one of the most prestigious titles in the European Tour. First staged in 1978, it has seen many of the world’s greatest players lift the trophy. Greg Norman, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Sir Nick Faldo, Lee Westwood, Retief Goosen, Darren Clarke and Colin Montgomerie are among the most decorated former champions of the event.

With over 30 years of history to look back on, the European Open is a driving force in the sporting world. The electrifying atmosphere at this European Tour tournament can be felt both on and off the course. With its glorious return as the PORSCHE EUROPEAN OPEN in 2015, the tournament entered a new era: moving away from the British Isles, it now takes place annually in continental Europe.

THE TOURNAMENT

Unique tournaments demand an equally unique setting. Green Eagle Golf Courses is located in a beautiful scenic area just outside of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Although it is hosting the PORSCHE EUROPEAN OPEN for the first time, Green Eagle has already gained a lot of experience by organising eight international professional tournaments – including the European Challenge Tour in 2010 – in the past decade.

The North Course, where the PORSCHE EUROPEAN OPEN will be played, spans 86 hectares. It was opened in 2008 and created specifically to meet the requirements of international professional tournaments. With a total length of 7,165 metres from the champion-ship tee, it is the European Tour’s longest course and one of the ten longest courses in the world.

According to the DGV’s course rating, the North Course boasts the highest level of difficulty in Germany, providing the illustrious backdrop and an appropriate challenge for Europe’s top golfers.

THE VENUE

Precise. Puristic. And uncompromisingly functional. Stunning in its black design accentuated with blue elements. A testament to the exceptional stylistic vocabulary of its predecessor. Exclusively limited to 10 timepieces worldwide. The Chronotimer Series 1 Porsche European Open Limited Edition represents the new era of Porsche Design Timepieces. It is a tribute to the passion Porsche Design has demonstrated in uniting iconic design and technology in perfect harmony for more than 40 years – celebrating tradition, innovating the future.

The ETA Valjoux 7750 movement and Porsche Design Icon rotor at the heart of the exclusive chronograph guarantee reliable precision. The double-sided, 7-layer anti-reflective sapphire crystal ensures optimal readability – even under water.

The graphic elements of this extraordinary limited-edition timepiece have been kept especially slender to optimise the readability. The colourful design accents on the dial reference the colour of the Porsche European Open logo. The shape of the dial and hands is an homage to the legendary predecessor of Porsche Design Timepieces: the unique Chronograph I.
