CHUCK E. CHEESE’S VIDEO COLORING BOOK

IntroductionThe Chuck E. Cheese’s Video Coloring Book (VCB) is a program, which runs under the Linux operating system on aPC (clone) platform. All necessary software is stored on a hard disk within the system cabinet. When powered on, theoperating system will automatically “boot” from the hard disk and immediately start the game without operatorintervention.

During the boot process, the operating system displays a number of messages indicating progress. Many of thesemessages are a result of “autoprobing” for attached hardware, which may or may not be present, e.g. a pointing device(“Mouse”). These messages may be ignored. However, should the boot process halt, the last message displayed shouldbe recorded and reported to Coastal technical service.

Game PlayAfter the insertion of a coin (or coins), the game will exit the attract mode and show the player four (4) “black line”drawings. The voice prompt will then instruct the child to select one of the drawings. The player selects the drawing bytouching the video with their finger anywhere on the desired drawing. Once the drawing is selected, a larger “fullscreen” version of the drawing will appear. The player is then instructed to begin coloring the picture by first selectinga “crayon” from the color palette, located at the bottom of the video, and then touching a section of the drawing. Theplayer continues this procedure until the drawing is completely colored, or time expires. At completion, the drawingwill “animate” into a short cartoon, and thank the player. After the animation is complete, the game will dispense apre-determined amount of tickets to the player, and reset to the attract mode.

Hand Pay and Error ResetShould a coin switch jam or an out-of-ticket situation occur during game operation, the game will halt and anappropriate voice message will be played until such time as the “Hand Pay” button is pressed. This switch is locatedbehind the coin door adjacent to the power switch.

Setting Game ParametersThe game uses a number of parameters for operation which are retained on the hard disk. These parameters are subjectto change using an “operator’s menu”. This menu can be activated, when the game is in attract mode only, by pressingthe setup button inside the machine cabinet. This switch is located adjacent to the “Hand Pay” switch behind the coindoor.
