In April 2005, Chugai Pharma USA LLC (CPUSA), the US subsidiary of the Tokyo-basedmajor Japanese pharmaceutical company Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, relocated itsheadquarters from San Diego, California to Bedminster, New Jersey. There it hoped tocreate an efficient, visually dramatic corporate workspace that would attract clients andretain talented associates. The Company also hoped the workspace would represent itsJapanese roots with a simple, sleek design. With a combination of workstations, privateoffices, conference rooms and seating, Knoll and the design firm Parette SomjenArchitects provided CPUSA the platform to cultivate a corporate culture and image basedon efficiency, elegance and professionalism, all while meeting their budget requirements.

The Morrison workstations, front cover, feature Reuter overhead storage units, pedestalsand a Life™ chair. Morrison brings to the space a definitive architectural vocabularyand to the users, proven performance. For private offices, CPUSA selected the Reff™office system, a beautifully-proportioned wood furniture platform, exquisitely detailedwith an eye toward casegoods precision. The U-shaped private office configuration inMedium Cherry, at left, and the peninsula d-shaped desk top in a Beech finish, topright, both incorporate the over desk unit for easy, space-saving storage; the Life™chair and two JR® side chairs are the CPUSA standard for private offices. The conference room, bottom right, features the Reff™ drum-base table in Medium Cherry.
