ARRIVAL OF DAVID KENNEDY As reported in the last Parish News, our new Vicar, David Kennedy, will be joining us on Thursday 11th October. The invitation (right) is open to everyone and we do hope that as many people as possible connected with St Andrew’s will be there to welcome David and his wife Janet. If you are hoping to be there, it would be helpful if you reply to the invitation, but do come even if you haven’t replied.
CATERING HELP NEEDED
Heini Herrmann is masterminding the catering for the refreshments after David’s Institution and Induction, but he would like some help in the following ways, please: 1) Providing some food or, if you would rather, do-nating some money to help with the costs (in an enve-lope to either of the Churchwardens please). 2) Volunteering to assist with set-up in the Parish Hall at 4.15pm. 3) Helping with serving drinks & clearing away.
Lists for signing-up are available on the sloping noticeboard at the back of church. Thanks.
The Churchwardens and PCC of the Parish of Corbridge with Halton and Newton Hall
invite you to
the Institution by the Bishop of Berwick and Induction by the Archdeacon of Lindisfarne
of the Rev’d Canon Dr David John Kennedy as Vicar of Corbridge with Halton and Newton Hall
on Thursday 11th October, 2018 at 7.30pm in St Andrew’s Church, Corbridge
RSVP to: [email protected] or to Churchwardens, St Andrew’s Cottage, Hill Street,
Corbridge. NE45 5AA by 27th September 2018, please.
In order to help with catering it would be helpful to know whether you will be staying for light refreshments in
the Parish Hall after the service.
PATHWAYS MISSION is taking place across the diocese on 6th-9th September.
Our diocese is the fifth diocese to host one of these mission weekends, after the initial vision was first imagined at a Bishops’ retreat on Holy Island in 2014.
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, along with 27 Bishops from the Northern Province and 12 mission teams will be working right across the
diocese, with events planned in each deanery. For our local events, see leaflets at the back of church. Events in Corbridge are in the Church Calendar (see p4).
The weekend closes with a service: Celebrating Hope, at Hexham Mart,
from 4-5pm on Sunday. This is an opportunity to invite people who are interested in finding out more about Christianity to hear interesting stories and talks which present the gospel in a relevant way. The Rt Revd Dr Pete Wilcox, Bishop of Sheffield will be guest speaker at the service.

It would be really good if a few people could volunteer and we could have a rota of helpers. Speak to Louise or Linda if you’d like to find out more. Thanks

A NEW PIANO FOR ST ANDREW’S After years of faithful service the Broadwood piano has now gone to reside at Minsteracres - in the ballroom. We are very grateful to Robin and Mary Gray who have let us borrow it for many years. We were offered the opportunity to purchase a Yamaha baby grand piano and Robert Laws, organist at Riding Mill Church, is seen here giving the first recital at one of our Friday summer lunchtime concerts.
CELEBRATING A BIG BIRTHDAY
Most of us fondly remember David and Joan Welsh, who moved to Guisborough in 2016 after many years in Corbridge and at St Andrew’s. They were back in the village on 16th August for a surprise ‘special’ birthday party for Joan at The Angel. Warwick and Suzette helped keep the secret so that Joan looked genuinely surprised when she found a room full of friends instead of just a reserved table for 4! Campbell gave a speech and insisted on embarrassing Joan. And there was cake and food at what was a lovely occasion.
