Deer Park Church of Christ
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER | MAY 5, 2019 | VOLUME 52 | ISSUE 18
Paul says that we should pray “without” ceasing. Now that is a difficult thing to do if prayer is reduced to a certain form at a certain time since often in our busy world we are not in a place condu-cive to formal prayer. But prayer can be offered up at anytime in any situation. Speaking out loud to the Father while we are driving by ourselves is a great time to pray. Look around on your journey and thank God for other people, what you see, for the physical things you have and even for patience when someone doesn’t turn right on red and waits until green pops up. Pray a prayer of total thanksgiving and try not to ask for anything. Be thankful for church stuff. Offer thanks for people from your past who have helped you along the way. Give appreciation for family, friend, co-workers and those who upset you. In prayer think about the mystery of our Di-vine Father and all he has done and through whom he has worked to bring us to Christ. Focus on your own spiritual needs. As you speak aloud, make a list of your spiritual blessings which God has given you, like salvation, forgetting your sins, the Holy Helper (Spirit), the word of God (Bible) and the spiritual support group (church). Having time alone in a car while running er-rands presents a great place for personal devotion in prayer. Have a pray filled week.....Foree

Has anyone ever told you that you cannot do
something? I know people have told me many times that
I can't do this or that. But has it stopped you from doing
it anyway? For me I would say sometimes yes and some-
times no. Some have been told they would never walk or
talk again. Many have been told that they cannot succeed
and cannot become great. Others have been told to just
give up. I do not know why, but some people try to put
limits on us. Over the years, people have been wrong
about so many people who have overcome and succeed in
life.
Let’s start with the Bible and go from there.
Moses was a whinny man who felt he could not speak
well enough for God's work (Exodus 4). Gideon was a
man who was scared and fearful of the future (Judges 6-
8). What excuses do we tell ourselves to hide from spiri-
tual greatness? Thankfully, God works with imperfect
and flawed people to achieve great things. Our challenge
is to put away our excuses, to ignore the critics, and to see
just how high and far the Lord will take us.
Some of us may not have a great singing voice, a
strong body or a sharp mind, but there is still no reason
we cannot achieve spiritually greatness. Who is to say
you cannot be the next Paul? Why can you not be the
next David? Usually it is not others who are holding us
back, but ourselves. This week let's not hold ourselves
back and see where God will lead us. Have a great week
everyone Todd
