ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY—The OLG St. Vincent de Paul Society wishes to thank the Parish for all the continued support of its Christian mission to help the poor. The first Sunday food donations and food drives by various groups help keep the food pantry stocked. The donations to the Poor Box and the yearly collection in November help provide support for utility and shutoff notices, medicine, rent assistance, furniture and other critical support for our 60 registered clients. We would like your assistance in our mission to help the poor. If you know of anyone who needs our help, please contact us at 412-200-2244. All inquiries are strictly confidential and handled with respect to the individual. We also are seeking new members to help us in our mission to help the poor in our Parish. Please contact Mike Durr, president, at 412-726-5971 if you are interested in joining OLG’s St. Vincent de Paul.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE (TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME)—Today’s gospel teaches personal sacrifice is the key to successful parenting. If we try to “save your life you will lose it.” The more we give of our self, the more rewarding is our relationship with our children. That’s the secret: the more you give, the more you get.

YOUNG ADULT BIBLE STUDY—If you are college-aged or twenty something, regardless of where you are in your faith, it is not too late to make some new friends and explore the Bible as it relates to life as

a young adult. Meetings are Sundays, June 19 and 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Rutkowski Religious Education Center. Just bring yourself! Contact Leslie Chabala at [email protected].

SUMMER PRAYER MEETINGS—Once again, the People of God community will be sponsoring summer prayer meetings on Thursday evenings June 30, July 7 and 21 and August 4 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Keefer Hall. The worship is lively and the fellowship is welcoming. All ages are welcome. If you have any questions, please call Milo and Joanne Milburn at 412-221-9022 or Bill and Joanie Nath at 412-221-4531.

OUR LADY OF GRACE FACEBOOK PAGE—We now have a Facebook page. You can like us at “Our Lady of Grace Scott Twp, PA”. We will be regularly updating our Facebook page with Parish activities and announcements.

LADIES OF CHARITY DIAPER DRIVE—The OLG Ladies of Charity, in support of Catholic Charities Diocese of Pittsburgh, are hosting a Diaper Drive that will benefit low income families in Allegheny County. Our collection will take place after all Masses next weekend, June 25 and 26 in Keefer Hall. Diapers may also be purchased for donation online at http://www.smile.amazon.com. Please select Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc. as the charity and have your donation sent to Catholic Charities, 212 Ninth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Sixty percent of infants of mothers age 25 and younger live in poor or low income families in the Pittsburgh region. These families and the agencies that support them have insufficient supplies to keep a baby clean, dry and healthy. Pittsburgh is listed in the top ten of “Babies Born in Poverty” in the nation. Please consider supporting this ministry to children in our own region.

WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING IN THE DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH?—This week’s On Mission for the Church Alive! Information sessions presented by Bishop Zubik or diocesan priests will be from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on June 20 at St. Ferdinand, Cranberry Township; June 21 at St. Damien of Molakai, Monongahela; June 22 at St. Thomas (St. Marcellus Site), Clarksville; and June 23 at St. Andrew, Center Township. All are welcome. No reservations are necessary. The sessions are held in the church.

FESTIVAL CORNER As summer begins….Annual Festival plans begin to take shape. Mark your calendar for Monday through Saturday, August 15-20. Please consider being a captain for a booth this year. All you need to do is schedule volunteers in a particular booth. It is a great way for a team, a

family or group of friends to work together for the Parish. Please call Erin King to volunteer or with any questions, 412-292-5624. See the Patron and Sponsorship opportunities on the insert-a great way to help the Parish defray Festival costs. Festival Raffle tickets will be available for pick up in the Church Vestibule after all Masses this weekend. Please return your tickets (including the Parishioner Appreciation chance) by Friday, July 29 at noon to be entered into the $1000 early bird

special. We are beginning to collect prizes for the Festival Chinese Auction raffle, gift certificates, lottery tickets, electronics, sporting tickets or goods etc. are especially popular. Please drop off at the rectory anytime Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. THANK YOU in advance.

Today, in our country, we celebrate Father’s Day. Families will be gathering around picnic tables, at the ball park and in our homes to honor the men who have helped bring us into the world, have indeed shaped our lives and from whom we have learned how to love and provide for the people entrusted to our care. With our mothers, God has blessed us with fathers so that we might have the opportunity to grow in wisdom and grace in a secure family environment. For those whose fathers have died or whose families are fractured by divorce or estrangement, the need for paternal love and affirmation is still strong and viable.

In the 27 books of the New Testament, God is referred to as Father, pater in the Greek, 250 times, 170 times on the lips of Jesus himself. In the progressive revelation of the Holy Trinity, the Old Testament image of the One, Lord God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, is revealed as a community of loving persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in the New Testament. The transcendent Creator of all is shown to be the immanent God of love who draws close to His creatures. If we think of the difference between a child’s relationship to his mother and to his father, we can see some of this tension between transcendence and immanence in our familial relationships, too. With our mothers we are naturally close and intimate, especially as babies and children. Our relationship with our fathers is a more learned experience, especially as we mature. The father in the family suggests God’s authority, power and strength which we have to learn to reckon with in our homes, our hearts and our lives of faith. The point is that Christian revelation has a familial shape with God as our Father, Jesus as our brother, and Mary as our mother. This deeply embedded character of the Christian revelation of who God is and who we are in relation to Him, is intended by the Creator so that we can learn to love in our human families and extend that love to our brothers and sisters in the Lord and to God Himself. On this Father’s Day, let us honor our Dads, living or deceased, and let us honor our heavenly Father who has adopted us into His divine family through the precious blood of Jesus Christ, our brother and Lord. Rev. Richard A. Infante Pastor

The priests, parishioners and staff of Our Lady

of Grace Parish would like to welcome
