EASTER DUTY The obligation to receive Holy Communion extends through Trinity Sunday. May 22, 2016.
CONGRATULATIONS SAINT JOSEPH ARCHDIOCESAN MEDAL OF HONOR !!! The Archdiocesan Medal of Honor is awarded to a parishioner who has shown exemplary service to the local parish over many years. The pastor recommends a possible recipient to the Archbishop’s Office accompanied with a curriculum vitae of the candidate. The Archbishop reviews the merits of the candidate and judges if he/she is worthy of the award, Past Our Lady of the Assumption recipients have been: Gonzalo Docal (deceased) Rita DeNegre, Theresa DeSarbo, Robert Ellis, David Leonard (deceased) “Bob” Williams (deceased), Andrew Esposito, Anna “Chickie” Vaccarino, Janice Wivagg, Joan Carrington, Mathew Giglietti and Margaret Hamilton.
This year’s recipient is Mrs. Richard (Mary) Parcella. Mary has been a member of the Ladies’ Guild and served as co-president. She has been a catechist in our Religious Education Program Presently, Mary is an important member of the Rite of Christian Initiation process, a Eucharistic minister and coordinator for the ministry serving parishioners in health care facilities and/or the homebound. Mary attends daily Mass and also teaches English language arts in conjunction with the Office for Catholic Social Justice Ministry and Saint Rose Parish, New Haven.
Father Gene mentioned: “I am honored that Mary is recognized for all her efforts to build up the Catholic faith within our parish and beyond. Mary has an abundance of energy and carries out her numerous ministries with joy, kindness and in a spirit of humility. May Mary be richly blessed!”
Mary will receive the Saint Joseph Medal of Honor at Saint Joseph Cathedral, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford on Sunday, April 17. The Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair will preside at the 3:00PM ceremony. Friends and parishioners are invited to the Archdiocesan ceremony.
