SAVED BY GOD’S LOVE

Because the people broke the old covenant, God promised a new covenant, not in the blood of oxen and other animals, but in the blood of the Son, Jesus Christ. This new covenant, foreseen from afar by Jeremiah and the prophets, was not to be engraved on stone, or written on paper, but carved on our hearts, so that we might know God intimately. Not by keeping many laws are we to be saved, but by the love of God, living and real in our hearts through the sacrifice of Christ. Our Eucharist is the pledge of that indwelling of Christ, and of our response of praise and thanksgiving to God for the mercy, love, and kindness shown to us in forgiving our sins and cleansing our hearts of everything evil. God issues this invitation to intimacy by offering us the chance to have our sufferings transformed into the perfect love of the Savior, who first loved us.

Dear Parishioners,

Yesterday, the Annual St. Patrick-St. Joseph Show and Dinner was a great success. Tony Kenny and Aaron Caruso and the Dublin City Dancers were all in great form. The parish is indebted to the sponsors: Peter and Mary Clavin, Bob Golden and Maureen Moore, Frank and Alice Keating and the D’Onofrio Family. The chairperson of the event was Arnie Fusco whose assistance to me is immeasurable. I am also grateful to M and M Caterers, Dominic O’Reagan, Rafael Medina, parents of Holy Angels Catholic Academy, all those who purchased tickets, all those who purchased 50/50 chances, and those who sold the chances. The proceeds of the event will be joined to the proceeds of the 125th Anniversary for the renovation of the auditorium. Tomorrow will be the Solemnity of St. Joseph. The 11:45am mass will be celebrated in church and there will be pastries served in the Msgr. Cavanagh Room after mass in St. Joseph’s honor.

Next Sunday will be the Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, more popularly known as Palm Sunday. There will be processions at the 6:30pm, 10:30am, and 12:00pm masses. We’ll begin in the flower pot yard. I ask for your generosity in the 2nd collection, which will be the Easter collection for the parish.

Next Monday, March 26th, Monday of Holy Week, there will be a priest available for the sacraments of reconciliation from 3:00pm to 9:00pm (3pm - 7pm in English, 7pm - 9pm in both English and Spanish).

The Holy Week Schedule cards will be distributed during the coming week.

We have the honor of Bishop DiMarzio’s being the celebrant of the Holy Thursday liturgy at 7:00pm on March 29th. We begin the final two weeks of Lent today so please try to accomplish as many of your affairs this week so that Holy Week will have as few distractions as possible.

Let’s pray for each other, Msgr. Kevin B. Noone

125TH ANNIVERSARY “TIME CAPSULE” PROJECT

OLA is concluding its 125th Anniversary celebration with the creation of a “time capsule” to be

opened on the parish’s bicentennial in September 2091. This time capsule will contain items

intended to provide future generations with a unique insight into parish life at OLA today. All

parishioners are invited to offer their personal reflections for placement in the time capsule.

Positive thoughts and reflections that you, as a parishioner of OLA today, would like to convey

to the parishioners of OLA in the year 2091 can be written on specially-prepared forms, available in

both English and Spanish, which you’ll find throughout the church this weekend. Please take

one home, complete it, and drop it into the collection basket at any weekend mass during the

month of March. More information about the time capsule will be announced in the coming weeks.

CELEBRATE MARRIAGE

Please join us at a Celebrate Marriage Day at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills, NY on Saturday, March 24, 2018. It is a one-day marriage enrichment lasting from 9:30am - 4:30pm.

The day offers some time to look at where we are in our marriages and revisit some of our basic communication skills and memories of our life together as a married couple. It also helps us

focus on the importance and dignity of our Sacrament of Marriage in God’s plan for us. The program was developed by a couple in the Archdiocese of New York and Worldwide Marriage Encounter

Weekend. Give it a try! We have a limited number of spaces available, so please don’t delay.

Call Bob and Melinda Nobbs (718) 805-7232 or email them at [email protected] to register as soon as possible. Cost is $25 per couple which includes coffee and bagels, a hero and salad

lunch, and materials and maintenance costs for the parish.

Join us in helping save lives as Mathiew always did!
